"Don't look at me. Don't turn around. I'm hideous."

"It can't be... oh."

"Oh," I moan, looking down at the toxic green monstrosity I'm being forced to wear. "What was Anya thinking?!"

"It's not that bad..." Spike lies, taking my hands in his, which is only a slight comfort.

"Not that bad?!" For the first time in my undead life, I'm thankful I can't look in a mirror. "I look all frumpy." I pout, brushing my hands over the green silk that makes the curves of my body stick out weirdly.

"You look beautiful, love, I swear." Spike says, placing his hand on my waist, leaning in for a quick kiss.

"Thanks, you liar," I smirk up at him. I rest my head on his chest. "I can't believe Xander's getting married today!"

"I suppose miracles do happen." he says quietly into my hair, and I laugh.

I pull back, ready to go, but Spike walks in the opposite direction to the door. "Where are you going?"

"I got you a little something," he says, a playful smile on his face, "Something you can wear to the wedding."

"Is it an invisibility cloak?" I half-joke. I was so excited to be a bridesmaid for the first time, but Anya really does have awful taste. I feel my eyes widen as Spike uncovers a large pink box from the pile of blankets that live on the sofa.

With a smile, he hands it over, "I was gonna save it for our anniversary but..."

I gasp. "Spike!"

I hold up the long, leather jacket as black as Spike's wardrobe. After a second, I remember -  I pointed this particular coat out in a shop window a few months ago.

"That coat's so cool. We could be matching." I had said, really as a throw away comment, but Spike had spent too much money and actually got it for me!

"Thought it could make you feel better about the dress. And, you'd find the box sooner or later - there's no place to hide it."

I kiss both his cheeks in gratitude before slipping on the shiny new coat. It instantly makes me feel better. Sure, Anya will make me take it off when I get there, but hey, I can enjoy it for now. In a silly way, I feel giddy to be dressed like Spike and also, leather jackets are so cool (I nearly cried when my one got destroyed in a fight).

"Come on, we don't want to be late." Spike grins, clearly pleased with himself. He takes my hand this time and we head out into the grey sky and drizzly rain for the taxi that's waiting outside.

As we loiter in the hallway, before taking our seats, I gaze around at the demons and humans. I  privately wonder how a fight hasn't broken out, knowing how Xander's dad can be, but appreciate the peace nevertheless. Spike, seemingly less calm, fidgets beside me, staring off blankly into the distance.

"Churches give you the wig, huh?"

"What? No. It's just..."

"What?"

"I don't know. I have this feeling that something bad is gonna happen."

"Well, that's not ominous," I frown, looking around more carefully now, in search of a suspect.

"I - I don't know." he shakes his head, "Maybe I still think Xander's gonna flake. I've never liked that kid."

"Maybe," I reply, "Try and relax. I'm sure Willow's with Xander, making sure he doesn't run away."
