Spike saunters into the Magic Box, a certain glow about him (which is probably smugness radiating off of him at dangerous levels). He gives me a smirk before saying "Mornin." but I pretend to ignore him. I hear Giles turn a page of his book. He's not paying attention. That's probably why Spike wiggles his eyebrows at me suggestively.
What happened last night can never happen again, as much as I may want it to. I only kissed him because I was high on sugar and alcohol and his costume made him look unfairly attractive. It was so careless to kiss him with my friends in the vicinity - it was careless to let it happen full stop.
As casually as I can, I lean on the counter behind me and ignore the smell of smoke Spike brought in with him. He's still looking at me - I can sense it - but I know if I look at him I'll turn a not-so-beautiful shade of scarlet.
Thankfully, Buffy walks through the door, along with Xander and Willow. I give them a smile, and greet them: "Hey, guys."
My body itches to get as far away from Spike as possible and run up to my friends like a lonely dog that's been waiting for its owner to get home all day, but I stay where I am.
"Hey, Y/N!" Willow asks, taking a seat at the wooden table, next to Giles. "Where did you get to yesterday? You just... disappeared!"
"We were missing the most important Scooby. People kept asking where Fred was." Xander adds.
I'm prepared for this. I knew somebody would ask, because it's true, I did disappear. They just don't need to know who with. I open my mouth, ready to rattle off my perfectly formulated excuse, when Spike speaks up evilly:
"I saw her with a guy."
I've never felt more rage. There's a stunned pause (which I find mildly offensive). My eyes snap to his and there's a smirk tugging on his lips before he lets it broaden into a malicious grin.
"A guy? Do tell." Xander smirks, jumping up to sit on the counter beside me, but he's looking at Spike.
Spike sucks his teeth, pretending to consider the question. "About my height... light hair. From what I could see, quite a handsome fella."
I take back every nice thought I had about Spike yesterday. I denounce all the times I smiled at him and kissed him. He's evil.
"Who was he dressed up as?" Willow asks Spike. Apparently, I'm not in the room.
Spike shrugs.
I fight the urge to roll my eyes. Now, everyone's staring at me - and I mean everyone. I frown at Giles, who, frankly, I expected better from. "Why're you so interested?"
He looks away immediately, embarrassed. "I - I - It's just that you don't, ahem," he starts to clean his glasses, "Go with guys. I thought you might be..."
"A loser?" I finish for him.
"A lesbian." he amends.
"Right. Well, that's swell. It doesn't matter anyway. Can we focus on the impending evil at play, please?"
Buffy folds her arms. "What evil? The most we've got to worry about right now is a neutered vamp who cheats at kitten poker. And he's three feet away from me, not causing any problems. We're surprisingly evil-less at the moment. So..." she trails off, holding out her palm as if she wants me to physically give her the gossip.
Everyone is clearly in a good mood after the Halloween party and day off, but maybe they're a little too chirpy.
"Come on! What was his name?" Xander urges, a mischievous glint in his eye.
