Chapter 29: Ping Glitch

[Start of Season 2 Episode 2]

Third P.O.V 

It was morning, right before Five and Kit headed off to work. Five was currently playing a game on the fire escape while Kitty was helping in the food truck, while also prepping herself a breakfast egg fried rice burrito. "Steck and egg!" Abuela called out to Papi. "Steck and egg!" Papi repeated as he prepped the burrito for the customer. "Hey, bedhead! Quit button-mashing up there and grab some breakfast like your sister, yeah?" Abuela called out to Five. "Okay! Coming Abuela!" Five said as he put his game away to head down. "Kimchi and avocado!" Abuela called out. "Kimchi and Avocados." Papi repeated. "Extra peppers!" Abuela called out. "Extra peppers!" Papi repeated as he went to put the peppers, but Five jumping down onto the food truck made them bounce into the burrito for him. 

"There he is. Your sister made you a chorizo." Papi said as he handed Five a chorizo burrito. "Gracias Papi, Gracias hermana." Five said. "Have a good day at work you two! And don't forget to call your guy's dad later, okay?" Abuela said to Five and Kitty. "We know, we know. Love you guys!" Five said as he ate his breakfast. "Bye, guys! Love you!" Kitty said as she and Five headed out of the food truck. "Five!" "Yo! Kitty." the neighborhood kids call out to the twins. "Did you guys hear? You gotta come by the game store." the kids said as they ran over to Kitty and Five who were grabbing their bikes. 

"Whoa, whoa, one at a time guys..." Five said. "Hector 'High Five' Nieves! And Catalina "Kit Kat" Nieves! How have you two been doing? Geri, a family friend of theirs, said as she walked up to the two. "Hey, Geri!" Kitty said. "Here you go, savages. Meet you back at the store. "You two of all people are going to flip when you see what's being delivered to my showroom this morning," Geri said as she showed the order form. "Woah! A vintage Ping arcade machine? We've never played one of those before." Five said. "Well, you two swing on by the store and check it out." Geri insisted. "Really?" Kitty said excitedly. "Hey, you two are my best customers. Haven't seen you two around for a while though. Last time was probably just before your father–" Geri said, pondering. Kitty and Five flinch a bit when she mentions their dad. 

"Yeah, um, actually, I don't think I can come by...um. You know we have this new tech support job at the Hinobi store." Five said as he handed Geri his business card. "I heard. Well, if not today, maybe–" Geri said, but Five interrupted again. "Maybe later. Yeah totally." Five rushed out. "It was good seeing you Geri, Adios," Kitty said as she and Five rode off to work

At the Hinobi store, things were mello in town, so a lot of the techs were just hanging in the lounge. Five was reading a book on 'Advanced Bee++ coding'. Miko was groaning from boredom as she ate chips. "Man, slow days are so slow," Miko said. "Yeah," Five said giggling. Kitty was at a game table with Mitch, Zahra,  and Haneesh as Miko rolled together. Kitty leaned her head on Mitch's shoulder as she waited for her turn. "What game are you guys playing?" Miko asked. "Board game based on a video game, based on a movie, based on a cartoon," Zahrah explained. "All right, random number generator, go!" Haneesh said as he rolled the dice. "Ugh, landed in tar pits again," Haneesh said in defeat. "Boosh!" Mitch said as he knocked Haneesh's piece off the board. Kitty giggled a bit but was trying to distract her mind today. "You okay, love?" Mitch asked, noticing his girlfriend's less enthusiastic mood today. Kitty nodded with a small smile. Mitch figured he'd ask her later or wait until she was ready.

"Alert! Alert! I am receiving an urgent request for High Five and Kit. Kat on the customer service line." BITT said as he flew in. "Us? Who'd wanna call us on a customer–" Five asked as they turned to BITT. "Five? Kitty?" Geri said as she popped up on BITT's projection. "Geri?" Kitty and Five asked at the same time. "Miko!" Miko said enthusiastically. "Isn't that the lady who runs the vintage game store on Zeddemore?" Zahrah asked Haneesh. "I hate old-school games. They're so beeping-boopping boring. Ugh." Mitch groans. Kitty gently punches him on the arm in slight offense. "Why are you calling us at work?" Five asked. "That Ping machine I ordered? It must've gotten pretty panged up in shipping because it's got a lot more quirk than I bargained for. Now you said you two work for tech support–." Geri said. "Five didn't really specify. We specialize in a...special kind of tech support." Kitty said as she got on screen on the call. "Have you tried just turning your machine off and on again?" Five asked.
