"I don't want you to come in with me." I grumbled from my chair, still waiting in the waiting room after an hour or so.
"What? Why? Its not that much of a big deal." he scoffed, finally putting his phone down and staring into my eyes.
"Oh, but it is a big deal." I responded, rubbing my temples as I felt myself begin to get increasingly angry.
"Its only a doctor, what's the worst that'll happen?" he deadpanned, leaning his elbows on his thighs.
"Miss Jonston?" came a doctor's voice from behind.
I turned around and smiled, indicating that was me. Then, I pushed myself up and steadied myself the best I could on a potentially broken ankle, "I mean it, Sam. Don't come with me."
He scowled and tossed himself back into his chair, shaking his head while he became invested in his phone again.
"Your boyfriend not coming in?" the doctor asked as I limped to her room.
"Nah, I'm good alone." I practically whispered.
"Would you like a hand?" she offered her shoulders for me to wrap my arm around, holding the bad side of me up a little better.
"Reet." she puffed as she sat at her desk, "I'm Dr Leigh. You wanna tell me what the issue is, Evelyn?"
I tried to explain myself, but the words got caught up in my throat and sounded like a strangled mess. I took a deep breath before trying again. But nothing. Time to face the facts: I'm not exactly normal.
"Take your time." the doctor comforted, crossing her leg over her lap.
"Sorry." I eventually spat out, "Em.. it was like... er, two or three days ago.. I think." I started, taking my croc and sock from my foot.
"Oh wow. That's a hefty ankle." Dr Leigh gasped, "Do you mind if I check it out closer?"
"Please." I smiled, lifting my foot towards her direction.
Everywhere she pressed felt like it was a thousand needles sticking into my whole ankle. Some shit bad had happened to my foot, and I was going to face the torture of getting it fixed.
"I fell down some stairs." I finally stuttered through breaths as she prodded at me.
"Those stairs seem like they're out to get you, pet." she chuckled in disbelief, "I want to get you in for an x-ray as soon as I can. Although, I'm very certain that you've broken it."
"Aye, alreet." I gulped, getting up again from the chair I was plonked in.
"Can I ask you a question before you leave?" she ironically asked.
You've been asking questions nonstop for the past 5 minutes, what's another one going to do? That's what I felt like saying, but I couldn't say that, its rude and my health is in her best interest, "Course."
"Why did you leave it so long to come in?"
"Bit scared of hospitals and places health related." I explained, mouth going dry all of a sudden, I knew she'd ask why, so I thought ahead: "Sort of triggers me a bit. I miscarried last year, and hospitals were all I knew for a while- for a variety of reasons."
She smiled softly, "I'm sorry to hear that, but we're here to help you. I'll come out and get you in a few minutes."
"Cheers." I muttered, sluggishly stumbling back to the waiting room.
Rather than walking to the seat I had been in prior to seeing the doctor, I sat myself in the nearest free chair to where I'd just been. In no way was I trying to piss of Sam or do anything to annoy him, I just couldn't walk any further.
"What's this about?" Sam spat as he walked over to sit beside me, "Bit petty for a 24-year-old, don't you think?"
"Excuse me?" I sighed, looking at him with evils.
"Sitting away from me because you're in a strop with is. In a strop because you're hurt, yet you're taking it out on me." he said, anger evident in his voice.
I rolled my eyes, sick of his bullshit already, "Sam, my ankle's very obviously broken. I can't exactly walk all the way owa there when I've just walked from the room." I huffed, "Not everything I do is related to you."
"Never said that, did I?" he groaned.
"Seriously? We're in a hospital for Christ sake man, Sam, yet you're here trying to start shit. Not today mate, not today." I hissed.
"You're right. Like always." he thundered, "So tell me, what's gan on with you?"
"Potential bre-"
"Nar nar, what's got your knickers in a twist?" he fumed.
"Evelyn?" Doctor Leigh spoke, luckily pulling me from the conversation.
"Home, Sam. I'll talk to you at home." I added, making my way away from him.
"Nar, I'm coming with. You're obviously not stable." he murmured, tone opposing the one he had seconds ago. His arms wrapped around me, guiding me to walk a little better than I had been.

"As you can see, you're ankle is broken but its nothing too major. Nor is it minor, neither. So that means we will have to put you in a cast as I don't think a boot would suffice." another doctor explained to Sam and I, "Is there someone home with you to be taking care of you?"
"Aye, that'd be me." Sam piped up.
"Reet, I need you to practically be her skivvy if you can. We're gonna be testing you on crutches as we don't want you putting any weight on it." he explained.
"So how long will that be on for?" I asked, mad that I couldn't do my job or any of my interests for a while.
"The cast will be on around 3 weeks to a month, then we'll see if you can use a boot. So, we'll see you for frequent check ups." he stated, "That also means no exercise or strenuous activities. Anymore questions?"
Both Sam and I shook our heads.
"Let's get this cast on you then. Oh. Have you ever used crutches before?"
"Aye."
"Great. If you'd like to come with me."

White. I'm stuck with a bland white cast and crutches for three weeks now. Not a nice colour like a child would get- not at all. White. I'm hoping and praying that I can get it off the earliest they can take it off.
To make my mood even better, Sam's mad at me again, but I'm hoping he doesn't lash out at me after the shitty day I've had. The least I need is an argument with the person that I love the most. And the person who's meant to be taking care of me physically too.
But now I was practically going to be stranded at home for the foreseeable, unable to work and see the kids that I was oddly learning to adore- no matter how much hard work they are. I get bored easily, so this was going to be months of hell.
When do I ever do as I'm told, though? Of course I'll be going out and about, its in my nature.
