Evie's POV:
I can't lie to you, last night went over in a blur. A drunken blur. All I recall was drunkenly swaying along to Sam's voice, followed by being carried back into the hotel room and that's where it stops if I'm being honest.
So if I'm certain I went back to my hotel, why am I sprawled across a park bench in the middle of Amsterdam when I'm meant to be going to Germany in... Fuck! 27 minutes. 27 whole minutes to find out where I am and search for the lads.
What the fuck is Sam going to think of me when I get to him? That I can't handle wine? Well, he wouldn't be wrong there, but that's not the point.
If I knew getting back together was going to be as rocky as this, I think I would've passed long ago. But this is Sam and I we're talking about, of course its not easy; I should've expected that.As the bitter air collided with my skin, my hairs stood and goosebumps began to form as my teeth chattered against one another. The morning blue sky that had inhaled me was a sight of pure perfection. The swift movements of the clouds had captivated me. I lay in solitude, one hand resting against my stomach and my other wrist sat lightly against my forehead, while my feet tapped to the rhythm of the birds' song. It truly felt like freedom. For the first time in a while, I was content and calm, contemplating the good, rather than the bad.
But then an opposing mood hit me like a truck as I suddenly remembered what I'd originally planned that morning. Checking the notifications on my phone, I physically cringed at what was before me. 27 missed calls in the past hour, 134 in total from the night- all from Sam. 286 texts from Sam and the lads and a missed call from mam. Seeing that made my heart drop. Although I was unaware of what time it'd be in Newcastle, I immediately rang mam back as soon as I gained all recollection of where I was.
"Hiya mam!" I breathlessly greeted, "What's up?"
"Hello lover, you alright?" she asked.
"Wey aye." I beamed upon hearing her voice, "How's everyone on your end?"
"We're all fine. Just rang you before to say Yvonne's got her surgery today if you want to give her a call." she explained.
"Oh, alright." I replied, "How's she feeling 'boot it?"
"Taking it like a boss, as per." she responded, "How you feeling about it?"
"Bit guilty." I admitted, "But yous are right: this break is exactly what I needed."
"Don't feel bad, you're managing to ring everyday. You taking your meds too? Took them for today?" she inquired, making the alarm bells in my head rapidly ring.
"Not yet, but here's the situation." I interrupted through stutters of protest from my mother, "Got drunk, have found myself in a park in the middle of nowhere, so I called you to calm myself down and now feel bad for not ringing Sam." I explained, approaching the exit of the park.
"Only mine," she tutted, "Well give him a ring now, I'm about to go pick up the bairns. I love you darling and we'll talk later."
"Aye, love you mam." I smiled, frantically hanging up and immediately calling Sam.
After one ring, he had picked up, his voice hoarse and rough, "Where the fuck are you?" he announced angrily.
"Ah yes, good morning to you too Sam. Oh me? Yes I'm alright, how about you?" I sarcastically scoffed, suddenly remembering the frequency of our bickering.
"Don't spin this on me, Evelyn."
Uh oh. Not the full name.
"I've been worried about you since we got to the hotel and you magically left, without saying a word. Now, I have to delay this bus leaving until we find you." he hissed quietly, making me assume people were around him.
"Words can't describe how sorry I am, but sorry is going to have to cut it." I gulped, "I'm on my way back now, I've just gained my bearings but my head's stotting. If you don't mind, will you hoy my clothes into my case and I'll be back in ten?" I queried, picking my pace up significantly.
"Fine." Sam sighed, "See you in a few. Love you."
"Ta ra Sammy boy." I smiled back, tightly gripping my phone in hand and sprinting to the direction where I recognised was the street of the hotel.
Luckily for me, and everyone else, I hadn't disappeared too far away: about a fifteen minute walk, ten minute jog with a hangover and flats on. My heart beat rapidly and my whole body was sweating out my whole water supply as I approached the entrance of the place, seeing the band slouched on the settees in the foyer.
A relieved Sam engulfed me in a hug when I'd walked into the building, seeing the disapproving look from Owain over his shoulder. After we parted from the embrace, he threw my bag at me and pulled me over to a private area.
"Well?" he spat.
"Not now, please not now." I begged, giving my tender head a rub.
"If not now, when? Because I sure as hell have zero time free. I'm not the one on a break, this is my job, Evie, and you're jeopardising it." he thundered, "So, we're discussing it now."
All of the blood rushed into my cheeks and my stomach began to churn from nerves and the excess alcohol of last night, "I divnt kna what happened beforehand like, but I woke up this morning in a park down the street." I explained, shying away from his distracting gaze.
"Reet." he mumbled, "So why didn't you answer your phone?"
"Well I did eventually." I shrugged.
"Not quick enough, though. What if somet had've happened and I wasn't here by the time you got back?" he suggested.
"Well you're here in one piece, so that never happened." I scoffed.
"Yeah, but what if?" he started, "What if it was Bailey ringing about Yvonne or the kids? What if it was your mam ringing about your dad? What if it was Tyler's last ever call to you? What if Rylee and Fran were announcing their break up?"
"But it wasn't. It was you wondering where I was and mam letting me know Ivy's in for surgery today." I shot back in an equally harsh manner.
"Right then." he said with a hand sliding down his face, "We're off now, the bus is here."
"Am I still sitting with you?" I questioned like a small child after they'd been in trouble, hoping that their parents still loved them the same. Except for this wasn't my parent, instead, in my case, it was the one person I could see living my life with. The one person who I trust with my whole life that hasn't known me my whole life.
"You're being daft now." he snorted, "I'm not that petty. Not for you anyways." he admitted, pulling me in for a hug that I melted into, "We'll get sorted, then we can FaceTime Yvonne, yeah?"
I nodded in response, grabbing my suitcase and heading to the bus, interlocked with Sam.
Thank God that encounter went well.
