"Having lunch with you was nicer than what I expected

"Having lunch with you was nicer than what I expected." Horan said when we left the restaurant.

"Should I take that as a compliment?" I asked, ironically.

"Do whatever you want." He let out a small laugh.

I looked at him, raised my eyebrows, and then looked the other way.

"That's rude, Greenwood." He whispered.

"Is it, Horan?" I replied.

I can't believe what happened today. It felt different. I thought this meeting was just going to be another uncomfortable conversation, but it ended up being something I won't forget in a long time.

Something I will for sure remind Horan about if he decides to be an asshole to me again. And something I will remember when he pisses me off.

For the first time, I saw a human with a heart in Horan. Not just a rude working robot. A person. And not a bad one.

What if a friendship is an option for us now?

No. What am I thinking about? It was just a meal. Let's not imagine things too fast. What if this meant nothing for him?

For now, that was not my impression. I hope it stays this way. I hope this also meant something for him.

"Greenwood." He suddenly called me.

"Hm?" I asked.

"You looked distracted. Everything alright?" He asked.

"Yeah. I was just thinking. At what time is the match today?" I replied.

"Um, 9pm if I'm not mistaken. We have to be there before 8pm." He told me.

"Good." I replied.

He kept silent.

"Horan, I don't want to bother you, but you never told me how you met Mr Payne." I said.

I was genuinely curious about that. Why were they such good friends? He said he would tell me after the match against Chelsea, without me asking, and I stayed curious, because of the tension around us.

"I never told you?" He asked.

"No." I replied.

"God, I forgot." He laughed softly. "It's a long story." He said.

"There's like 5 hours until we go to the stadium for the match. But if you don't want to tell me it's alright." I said.

"I want to. I told you I would tell you. Well, you know I used to play football years ago." He started.

"Yeah."

"I played for Mullingar's team, my hometown. I was a left forward."

I nodded.
