As usual, I arrived at the office the next day. This time, Horan arrived a minute after me.
He entered the room and none of us said anything. He sat and opened his computer, the same thing I was doing.
The environment was really uncomfortable, but I am not going to be the one starting a conversation. I am upset with him.
I noticed him looking at me a couple of times, but I tried to focus on my stuff and ignore it.
Then I received an email.
"Good morning Ms Greenwood. With this email I want to communicate to you that Harry Styles agreed to negotiate a contract with Everton F.C. He will be at your office with his agent by tomorrow morning. If that is okay with you.
Best of luck,
Nicholas Randall."
Exactly what I wanted to read today.
I don't know if I want to tell Niall. Not telling him would be playing his pointless game, but I believe he needs to feel what I felt.
Fuck my feelings. We are professionals, and we are coworkers, even if we don't like it.
Obviously reading that email made me smile, and Horan noticed. So I didn't end up needing to start the conversation.
"Greenwood, something happened?" He asked.
"Yeah, Styles and his agent will be here tomorrow." I informed him.
"Oh, good." He said, not especially motivated.
I just smirked and went back to my things, what am I supposed to answer? I am not going to remind him again that he not showing any motivation.
"Wait, Greenwood." He said.
"Yeah?" I replied.
"I want to apologize for what happened yesterday. And thank you for telling me about Styles." He said.
I am genuinely surprised. But I feel like he said it sincerely.
"We can't keep making the same mistakes all the time. You can't play the same game all the time waiting for the end to change at some point." I told him.
"I realized that, believe me." He said.
"I can't keep going in circles. I already forgave you once, for the same thing. And you did it again, and worse." I told him.
"It won't happen again." He assured me.
"Show me, and I'll believe you." I said, in a serious tone.
"If you don't want to believe me, don't. But don't tell your superior what to do." He replied.
I wasn't expecting that. Wow. He is technically my superior, yes, but that's not the way to treat your sports director, or anyone in the club.
I had a lot of things to say to that, but I don't want to lose my job.
"Look, Horan." I sighed. "You gotta make up your mind whether you want the end you've had for the last seasons to change or not. But I can't keep trying to change it for you and receive this as an answer." I told him.
By the look in his eyes, I can't tell if he regrets what he said, or if he doesn't have an answer for what I told him.
Both options are a win for me, so I just looked away and continued with my stuff.

We spent the rest of the morning in complete silence, again.
The good thing about silence being so common in this office is that I am getting used to it. Silent places have always been uncomfortable to me. But it is getting a lot better now.
