After we sat down to eat and talked. We headed to a couple more places. We even stopped by at a small market. I bought yellow flowers for Mani, and she bought me this cute vest and a head band. We both bought beautiful handmade traditional Asian Conical hats. We laughed so much and took several pictures in them. We were heading to one last place before heading back to the hotel. The car drove up to a huge building that looked like a temple. We got out of the car and followed Mr. Udo to the door. He bowed to the men in front of him that looked like soldiers.
"Before we go in." He turns to us. "We must wash our hands. This is a sacred temple."
We nodded our heads and walked over to a man holding a bowl with water and another person holding towels. We washed out hands and dried them. Before entering the temple, we followed what Mr. Udo was doing. We bowed to the men then took off our shoes and put on slippers that were handed to us then walked into the temple. It was very quiet in here.
"This place is called Kofuku-ji." He turns to me and Mani. "It is a Buddhist temple that was once one of the powerful seven great temples in the city of Nara, Japan. The temple is the national headquarters of the Hosso school."
He turns and starts walking, we follow behind him. I pull out my camera and start snapping shots of the pictures and artifacts. He walks us around the temple explaining all the artifacts. He then brings us to a room where there is a desk with papers in a glass case.
"Its original site was in Yamashina, Yamashiro Province. In 672, the temple was moved to Fujiwara-kyo, the first planned Japanese capital to copy the orthogonal grid pattern of Chang 'an. In 710, the temple was dismantled for the second time and moved to its present location, on the east side of the newly constructed capital, Heijo-kyo."
"Wow!" Mani says staring at the papers on the desk. "What are these?"
"Kofuku-ji has its origin as a temple that was established in 669 by Kagami-no-Okimi the wife of Fujiwara no Kamatari, wishing for her husband's recovery from illness. Those are the letters she wrote."
"There in Kanji, can you translate them?" She looks at Mr. Udo.
"I cannot translate them. They are sacred between two people who are in love."
"Oh." She looks back at the letters.
"Come Ms. Yeman, you write your own letters to Nikki San."
"Oh... really?"
"Yes, come sit here." He guides Mani over and we walk towards another desk. "She translates for you and help you write Kanji letter to Nikki San."
"What should I write?" She turns around looking at Mr. Udo chuckling.
"Nikki San, Stand over there." He points to the side. "I need to tell Ms. Yemen something."
