Thalia was woken by a loud bang. It sounded like it was coming from the front door. What the hell. Rolling over she reached for Maxius. He wasn't in bed with her anymore. Where did he go?
Getting out of bed as quietly as she could she made her way over to Maxius's dresser and grabbed an oversized shirt and pulled it over her head. Then she grabbed her leather pants off the floor and pulled them on. Then she quietly made it to the door and cracked it open to listen. She had to make sure she didn't need to go and help Maxius. She wanted to make sure he was safe. Looking around the room for some type of weapon she found a bat and grabbed it.
"What are you doing here?" She heard Maxius's loud voice boom through the cabin.
"I told you I was coming. It just took me a little longer to get here than I thought it would." An unfamiliar male voice said.
"You can't be here right now, Ajax. I will contact you in a day or so. Thalia needs to feel safe before she starts meeting people. She is just now getting to know me. She has been on her own for a year." Maxius said.
"I'm no threat to her. You know that. How am I supposed to help protect someone I don't know? Hmm?" She heard this Ajax say.
Feeling intrigued by the new comer Thalia came out of the bedroom door with the bat in hand. and walked up to Maxius and wrapped her free arm around his waist.
"Maxius, you had me worried. I heard a loud noise then yelling. I thought I was going to have to come and save you. Then run for my life." she said, with a small smile.
Maxius turned his head to look at her with a cocked eyebrow. "I thought we said no more running, Thalia?" When he looked down he saw the bat. Turning back to Ajax he added, "See I told you it wouldn't be a good idea for you to be here right now. I just caught up with her and you almost scared her away."
"I wouldn't have ran. I would have fought for you first." Thalia said waving the bat at the man named Ajax.
Ajax wasn't as tall as Maxius but he was big. He had bulging muscles. His hair was long, down to his shoulders and cut in a shaggy sort of way. His eyes were hazel but the green in his hazel eyes was more prominent. He wasn't bad looking but Maxius was definitely more her type.
"What's up Thalia? I am Ajax. We didn't mean to scare you. I am one oh Maxius's friends." He said.
"Um. Nice to meet you. I think." Thalia said, eyeing him with suspicion. She never trusted newcomers. Especially one that was being yelled at by someone she was starting to trust.
Then he walked over to shake her hand. She stepped behind Maxius. She really didn't think she should trust this man. He was giving off a dangerous vibe. But maybe it was just the fact he looked like he could eat me.
"That's enough Ajax. Back up. I think she is feeling uncomfortable." Maxius said. When he glanced over his shoulder he told me, "It is ok Thalia. He was just leaving."
"It is ok. I think I am going back to my room for a while, I will see you shortly."
Back in the room she was staying in she sat the bat down and then sat down on the bed. She was getting a vibe from him. She didn't want to look too closely into it. It could be just because he was a shifter. She really didn't trust the lot of them. How could she? She had been running from them for over a year.
Maxius couldn't help but to wonder why Thalia acted that way towards Ajax. He knew she had to know he was a shifter. Maybe that was the reason she acted the way she did. He would ask her about it after Ajax left.
"Dude I think you need to leave. I will contact you in a few days to let you know what direction we will be taking this."
"Ok cool. Just let me know I will be around. Just don't take too long. I have other things I have to take care of also."
After Ajax left he decided to let Thalia have a little more time to herself. Maxius went to the kitchen and pulled out the cold pitcher of blood that was in the fridge and poured a tall glass of it. Sitting down at his little kitchenette he was deep in thought. He would just take sips of the cold lifeless blood. The taste was awful. He really needed to get warm blood from the tap soon. He and Thalia would have to go out hunting together. He wondered how he would feel watching her feed from someone else. Knowing how good it felt to have her lips on his neck. Feeling small warm hands on his shoulders roused him from his musings.
"Maxius, there is just something about Ajax. He made my fight or flight kick in." Thalia said leaning down to his ear. Having her so close to him made him feel some type of way. The breath on his ear made him get goosebumps.
"Do you think it is because he is a shifter so you are weary of him?"
"I thought that too. I think it was the way he was eyeing me though. It was almost like he was sizing me up. Like I was a threat or something like that." Thalia said.
"He is always looking for threats. That is his job. He is one of the mercenaries I was telling you about. He will be helping me protect you." Contemplating what she said he wondered if she had a sixth sense about things like this. She did decide to trust him and he was a good guy. Maybe there were alternative motives for Ajax. He didn't think there were, but hell you never know.
"I just thought I would tell you the feeling and vibe I got from him. There just isn't something right."
"You're just stressed over everything that you have been through. Him being a shifter probably doesn't help the matter much. I think we need to go out tonight and get fresh blood for the both of us." Maxius said, pulling Thalia in his lap.
"I know you're right. I just don't feel very safe out there. Is there some other way we can get food?"
