Down in the infirmary Thalia and her imps were sitting with her parents. They looked so much better. They were starting to heal up just fine. They were going to make it. She was ecstatic to see them again.
"Oh the parents. We like the parents." Thyme said.
"We like all of you too." Casha said.
Thyme and Tryx were perched on her shoulders. Ivy and Drude were perched on her fathers. Tatum and Mai were perched on her mothers. They were all just hanging out and talking. She was trying to work up the courage about the whole demon thing. She was nervous about asking though. How does one go about asking her parents why they never told her the truth about what they were. She had to get it out one way or another.
"Dad what happened to your hands?"
"Oh nothing." he said, putting them behind his back. "It's nothing."
"Oh ok. Mom dad I need to know why you kept me being a demon from me? Why didn't you tell me? I had deserved to know." Thalia asked.
"How do you know? Who told you? You weren't ever supposed to find out." her father asked.
"Maxius told me before Ezekiel could. He was honest with me and told me the truth on why Ezekiel wanted me. All you had ever told me was that he wanted me. Didn't you think I deserved to know?"
"Oh little one. You deserved to know you truly did. We were just trying to keep you safe. There aren't very many female hybrids of your nature. Most are males. In my long life I have only heard of there being two. One of those being you. We had to keep you safe." Her mother answered. "We never found out how Ezekiel had found out. We believe someone had betrayed us all those years ago."
"To keep me safe all you had to do was tell me. How was I supposed to protect myself from a group of witches? He had so many followers. He had shifters, witches and vampires. And I had been alone over a year before Maxius caught up to me."
There she asked. She was so glad they knew now. They knew she knew what she was. That had to have made a huge weight lift off of their shoulders. She just hoped they weren't mad that she knew. Plus she didn't want them to take it out on Maxius. He didn't deserve that.
"We are so glad you know now. We truly are. So have you heard any stories about your great great grandparents yet?" Her father said.
"Not yet. I was going to get to meet one of my cousins yesterday but before I could Maxius found me and brought me down here. I was glad he did. However I can't wait to meet my cousins. Apparently there are a few that work and live in the tower."
"You must be talking about Dixen and Zan. we don't know them real well but we have heard some amazing things about them. We hope you like them and get to know them very well. And you need to know we are truly sorry for not telling you about all of this. And that you had to find out from other people." her father answered.
"It is ok. I forgive you. What does it mean for me to be part demon?"
"Sweet, there is nothing different. You are as you are meant to be. You are strong, you are independent. You can take care of yourself. You have done it for so long. We are so proud of you." Her mother said.
"I saw you die. How are you still alive? I am sorry for being so blunt. I just need to know. Seeing you die ruined me."
"We weren't truly dead. The witch cast a spell to make our hearts quit beating after Ezekiel attacked us. He wanted to keep us alive to torture us. To let us see you get caught and tortured. Seeing you like that broke our hearts. He cried with every hit. With every time that vile man touched you." her mother answered.
How to respond to that. She wanted to get to happier topics and she was sorry she asked. However she needed to know. She needed to know all of this. She was happy she finally knew. Nevertheless hearing her parents got tortured was hard. She didn't want that for them. She truly didn't. She was glad they had found her parents though and they were now safe. That meant the world to her.
"So." Her mother said. "You and Maxius? I knew we picked the right one for you. I had a feeling the two of you would be a good match." Then she smiled.
"Yes. Yes you did. He is wonderful. He has taken real good care of me. He even saved me from Ezekiel."
"Speak of the devil."
"The Maxius is the here." The imps said in unison.
Glancing over her shoulder she saw Maxius walking right for her. She was so glad he had come. She loved being in his presence. She needed him like she needed her next breath. He came right to her and kissed her on the top of her head. Which caused her to blush. She couldn't believe he would kiss her in front of her parents. When he wrapped his arms around her she saw that his hands were busted up. He must have worked over Ezekiel. Maybe that was why her dad's hands looked like that. Maybe he had been down to the cells too. Hell everyone knew he deserved a shot at him too.
"Maxius what happened to your hands?" Thalia asked. Then she glanced at her father and cocked an eyebrow. Her father just smiled and looked away.
"Oh nothing to worry about. It is all ok now. I had some questions answered." He replied. Then he tacked on. "We were being followed. There isn't a traitor."
"Oh thank god. I would have hated to have a traitor with us. That would have really sucked. But if I would have guessed it would have been Liliana. I still don't like that vampire. There is just something about her." Thalia said.
So there wasn't a traitor. She was really ecstatic about that. She still didn't understand how they were followed though. There were never any headlights behind them. And the one time there was they got off the ramp and no one followed them. She could have sworn there was a traitor. There had to have been. What if Ezekiel was lying. He could be.
"See everything is going to work out just fine. Soon we will be able to go home and forget this all had happened." Maxius said, putting his arm around her.
If only forgetting would be so easy. She didn't think she would ever forget what had happened. Plus she doubted her parents would either. There was something about everything that happened that just seemed off. Like maybe Ezekiel didn't fight hard enough to get away. What if he wanted to be captured. There were so many what ifs.
"I don't think I will be able to get over this. It was traumatic. What if he is lying? What if he gets free again? What if he comes after us again? My parents said I am the only living female demon hybrid. What if he comes for me again?"
Then Maxius looked at her parents. He had a slight frown on his face. "So she really is the only one?" he asked. "Why aren't there more?"
"There has only been one other that I knew of and she killed long ago. Her life was lived in much the same manner as Thalia. Always looking over her shoulder. Always running. I didn't want that for Thalia." her father said sadly.
"Well we have Ezekiel taken care of. There isn't much he can do now. Plus if there are any others that come after her they will be taken care of also. I won't let anything else happen to her. We have homes in Colorado. Or we can move to Salem and be around the tower. It doesn't matter to me as long as she is safe." Maxius countered.
Now they were trying to make plans without her. Didn't she get a say on what she wanted. What if she liked the little cabin in Colorado and that was where she wanted to live. The one thing she did know she wasn't going to run anymore. She was going to stay and face whatever or whoever came after her. Hell she ran for the last year and still got taken. So what was the point of running?
"How about the big men let the little old girl decide what she wants to do." Thalia said sarcastically.
"We are sorry Thalia. We have no right to make plans for you. You deserve to choose your own path. Whatever that may be." her father answered looking sad.
"Thank you for your consideration." she said. "I would most like to stay in Salem for a little while. I want to get to know my family. Plus where are you guys going to be going? Are you coming to Colorado. We have plenty of room." then she winked at Maxius. Guess I should have asked, she thought.
"They are welcomed wherever they want to be. I was already thinking of inviting them to Colorado if that is where we decide to reside." Maxius said.
"We just want to be where you are." Her mother said.
"Well that is the good." Tatum said. "We want to the keep them."
Of course they did. They were all over her parents. "I think Tatum, Drude, Ivy and Mai have traded us in." she said to Maxius.
