In the pitch of night: When He Finds You

Chapter 27

"How much the longer." Thyme asked. "I need to get the out."
"We will be stopping again soon. We are about to need gas." Maxius said. "Everyone needs to take a bathroom break too."
Then his phone was ringing.
"Hello." pause. "Really." pause. "Ok, we will stop at the next exit." pause. "Ok we will. Bye." Maxius ended the call. "That was Cade he thinks we are being followed. He said three cars pulled out right behind him and are riding his ass. So we are getting off at the next exit to see if they follow us."
"Are you sure that is a good idea?" Thalia asked.
"Yeah I think it is. We need to know if we are being followed. But you need to stay in the car. No one gets out unless it is necessary."
Then they were pulling off the highway to the first exit they came to. At that point they pulled into the gas station. However the cars didn't follow them. So then everyone got out of the cars. They all gathered behind the car Maxius was driving.
"What did the cars look like?" Maxius asked.
"They were blacked out like ours. They were suvs though. They were riding my ass. I thought they could have been Ezekiel so I wanted to stop. No reason to be followed all the way to Salem if they are following us."
"I don't think it was them." Liliana chimed in. "If it was they would have followed us here."
"Well you never know it could have been." Coleman said, giving Liliana a pointed look. "Maybe they got behind us somehow. No one really knows what time they left. All we know is that when Jace left they were going somewhere. Who knows if they left Texas that soon. They could have stopped somewhere first."
"That is true. No one really knows." Shade said, looking around the parking lot.
"Hey I will be right back. I need to go into the store really quick." Liliana said. Then she took off at a quick clip.
As Thalia watched her go she had the strangest feeling so she followed her inside slowly. Once she was in the store she looked both ways to see where she went. There was no need to follow her though she was just in the snack aisle picking out some snacks. They were probably for her imps.
"Hey Liliana?" Thalia said.
Jerking her head up quickly like she was in a daze she said. "Oh hey. I didn't see you. What are you doing in here?"
"I needed to get some more snacks." not really but she needed an excuse. "What kind of snacks do your imps like? I damn near bought the whole store last time."
"Oh they will eat anything. They are mini garbage disposals."
"Ok. i will just pick up six things this time."
Thalia turned away and headed towards the chocolate. Her imps really enjoyed the chocolate last time. She picked up six different kinds. They still had chips and other snack foods in the car. Going up to the counter she paid and headed outside to the car. The imps all met her half way.
"What did you get the us? What did you get the us the Thalia?" Tryx asked. "We need the snacks. We need the lot of snacks."
"I got you snacks now get back to the car."
That's when they all flew at her and hung off her like a bunch of bats. The only ones not holding on to her vest was Thyme and Tryx. they were on either of her shoulders. The others were all holding on to her vest with their little hands. They were so stinking cute.
"We go with the you." the quiet Ivy said. Looking down she was holding on to the first button of her vest.
"You are too cute." Thalia said to her.
When she was walking towards the car she heard someone bark out with laughter. "What the hell." Looking up she saw everyone staring at her and her imps. Because apparently they have all claimed her.
"Well look at that? You have all the imps." Maxius said. "Well all but two. But I doubt you will get them."
When she was back to the car all the imps took off and got into the car through the window that was left down.
"Now we get the snacks." Thyme said.
Then Thalia got into the car and handed out all the snacks. She was going to be driving this time around. She hadn't driven any the whole trip. She needed to do her share of driving.
As Maxius saw Thalia get into the driver's seat he was shocked. He was the one that was going to drive the entire trip. He wanted to be the one that got her to Salem safely. To get her to Xavier safely without any mishaps. He really did hope they made it there safely so far everything had been going smooth but it only takes one thing to have a wrench thrown in. then everything would go to shit and it would go quickly.
"I think it is time to get back on the road. We need to make decent time. Has anyone heard from Xavier yet?" Maxius asked.
"We haven't heard anything yet." Psyche said.
"Well try and get a hold of him again. We need to know that he knows we are coming and so was Ezekiel's small pack is coming too." Maxius answered.
"Will do. You know we got this. We will make it in time. We won't let Xavier fight alone." Ajax said.
"Well let's get on the road."
Then they were all loading up. Once in the car Thyme and Tryx perched on either side of Thalia headrest. "Are you sure you want to drive?" Maxius asked Thalia.
"Yes I am sure we only have two more hours until we get there. It shouldn't be too eventful. I am sure I can handle it." She answered.
Then they were off. Maxius had a bad feeling about all of this. It was taking Ezekiel's pack too long to make a hit on them. They had to know where they were. They just had too. There was no way they didn't they all had been in plain sight. He was shocked that they would go to Salem. Hell the leader of all vampires lived there. It was one place he shouldn't want to go.
The rest of the trip was uneventful. They made it to Salem without mishap.
