"So the big the ugly. He the sent the witches after the us. The me was so the high. I came down the fast." Tryx said, bringing his hands above his head. "I almost made it to the witches. I wasn't the fast enough."
"I the threatened him. I was the low. I had my the knife." she made a swinging motion with her hand like she was cutting someone. "I the cut him. Then he the batted me away. I hurt the wing."
"I was the going to the dive bomb him." he reached way up high and brought his hand down quickly. "Then they the smashed me out of the air."
As they told the story of their fight she listened intently. When they all ran out of air to keep speaking Thalia glanced around the room. The next conversation she would be having was with Coleman. Then she would go find Maxius. She needed to rest. She was starting to feel weak.
"Hey guys I will be right back." Spotting Coleman she headed that way. She weaved her way through the crowd. Once she was in front of Coleman she said. "Hey Coleman. Is it ok if I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure." was his one word reply.
"What is it like to be a hybrid? I am just curious. I found out today that I am one too and I don't know how I feel about it."
"No different than you already are. You have always been a hybrid you just didn't know." Coleman said. "What kind of hybrid are you?" he added scenting the air. "You don't smell like any I know."
"I am part demon."
Coleman moved so fast he was like a blur. He was up on his feet real close and smelling her. "I have never met one like yourself. You are rare. Very rare. No wonder I couldn't place you. I thought you covered your scent with that perfume crap."
"What do you mean rare. Ezekiel said there were more like me."
"And you trusted what he said? He would say anything don't you think. I have met a few males like you and that is it there is one here in the tower that I know of."
Why did she believe him. She knew he was a liar. Now she felt like an idiot for believing him. She should have known better. After all he did keep saying how special she was when he had her. That was all he kept saying. If there were more than he could have gone after them also. But he had only come after her that she knew of.
"Do people treat you differently since you are a hybrid?" Thalia asked.
"No people treat me differently because I am quiet and standoffish. They think I am stuck up because I am a hybrid. In all honesty I am just observing the people around me."
"Well that is good to know. I don't want people to treat me differently because I am a hybrid."
"Your case is a little different. There aren't many like you. And Maxius will always treat you the way he does. He thinks he needs to protect you. However that isn't because of what you are. It is because of who you are to him."
"What does that mean?"
"You will have to ask him. I should have just kept my mouth shut. Hell why am I talking so much to you? You are a demon aren't you." he laughed. "I am kidding demons can't do that. But I am talking a lot."
"It is just my charming personality." She said with a smile. "I will let you get back to being quiet. Thank you for talking to me."
"Anytime. I like you."
Then Thalia was walking off. She had a lot to think about. At least the conversation with Coleman went ok. She didn't get a lot of answers about being a demon hybrid. Other than she was rare. She wanted to know what all was different with her than a normal vampire. She really hoped it wasn't too much. But hell she had been this way her whole life so it wasn't like anything had really changed. The only thing that changed was the fact she knew now.
Scanning the crowd once again she looked for Maxius. He looked like he was in a deep conversation with Cazmir. Winding her way through the crowd she was polite to everyone she saw. She was almost to Maxius when Psyche pulled her to the side. She looked better than she had.
"I just want to tell you thank you again. You really didn't need to take that punishment for me." Psyche said, giving her a hug. "I am having a hard time believing we are actually safe."
"I feel the same way. I am just so glad they made it in time. But hey we almost got ourselves free. If they would have given us a few more moments before they strung us up on the poles we wouldn't have needed rescuing."
"That is true. We almost were free. I had forgotten about that. I am sorry my magic didn't get our cuffs free fast enough."
"It is not a problem. All that matters is that we are safe now. But I need some rest. I am trying to get to Maxius to see if we can go back to the hotel. I will talk to you later."
"Ok and thank you again. Talk to you later."
She really liked Psyche. She thought they would make good friends. What a better way to make friends than through a mutual torture and kidnapping. At least they had that in common. But how would Psyche feel when she found out she wasn't a normal vampire. Would she judge her or accept her for who she was. Everyone seemed to like Coleman. Even if he was a little standoffish. I can only hope Thalia thought.
Then she was looking up again searching for Maxius. He wasn't where she had last seen him. Cazmir was gone too. What the hell she thought, I am never going to get out of here. Then she ran right into someone she wished she never had to be alone with. Liliana. Not that she hated her or anything. She just didn't like the female.
"I am so glad you are ok. That would have been devastating to Maxius to lose you. He is very fond of you I can tell." she said with a wince.
"I am very fond of him too. And thank you. I am glad I am safe too." Thalia said with a small smile. "But I am looking for Maxius now. Have you seen him?"
"The last I saw he was with Cazmir and Vander. They were heading out the door." she answered.
Well shit. Where is he going? You would think he wouldn't take off far. She had been through quite a bit today. She was so ready to get out of here. She wanted to be in a quiet place to be able to process everything. She was a freaking hybrid. She thought dazedly. A hybrid.
"I got to go. I will talk to you later." Thalia said quietly.
"Talk to you later."
Scanning the huge crowd once again she still didn't see him. He had to be here somewhere. So she scanned the room again while heading to the opened door. Maybe she should see if the imps had seen him. So she looked for the imps also and couldn't find them either. Thalia started to feel distraught. She needed to get out of here and get some fresh air. She could feel her face becoming red. Her anxiety was starting to get high. Yes vampires have anxiety. Well hybrids she corrected herself.
Once she made it out the door to the conference room she took a deep breath. She was so glad to be out of there. Going to the right she leaned against the wall and just breathed. She just felt so overwhelmed with everything. She needed time alone since she couldn't find Maxius. Looking left and right she decided to go down the hall to the right.
There were pictures of all different kinds of things on the walls. There was one of a shifter mid shit. That was oddly disturbing. Then there was another of a man with horns. That was a demon. He was posed with a battle ax. He looked like a king of some sort. She was wrapped up in the picture. She rubbed her head where the man's horns were and wondered why she didn't have any. She had none of the characteristics of a demon. Her eyes weren't black. She didn't have horns. She didn't have the bottom set of fangs. Really she looked just like a vampire.
"Who are you?" she said to the picture. "Who are you?" she didn't know if she was asking herself or if she was asking the man in the picture.
"That is.."
She jumped so high the man behind her stopped speaking. Thalia spun around with her hands held in a fighting stance. Only to find that it was Xavier behind her. She lowered her hands.
"I am sorry. You startled me." she said breathlessly.
"I am sorry for startling you. The man in the painting is your great great grandfather."
"He is my what? You have to be kidding." Thalia said, glancing back at the painting. Not a photo.
She leaned in close trying to see if there was any sort of resemblance, however there was none. She didn't look like the man at all. None of their features matched. She looked at the painting beside it. Now the woman in the picture kind of resembled her. They had the same cheekbones and the same lips and eyes. She wondered who the woman was.
"That is your great great grandma." He said like he was reading her mind. "They used to run Salem. They were great rulers. I can only hope to live up to their expectation."
"I have never heard about them before. I would love to hear stories some time. If you have the time to tell them."
"They ruled long ago. They were mighty. Their love story is epic. I would love to tell you about them. However right now is not the time. You look like you need time alone. I just wanted to make sure you were ok. Maxius will be back shortly. He had to go and take care of something for me."
So he did leave her by herself. That wasn't like him. Usually he was so attentive. She wondered what he could possibly be doing that was so important. So important that he didn't tell her he was leaving. Man wasn't that such a bitchy thought. She was so used to handling everything herself she didn't know what her problem was.
"Thank you. If you see him tell him I am going back to the cells. I need to ask Ezekiel some more questions."
"You can't go alone. We must all go in pairs. I will send your cousin with you."
"I have a cousin?"
"Oh yes. Many. Many of them work in the tower. Dixen is one of my right hand men. He is an amazing person. He reminds me so much of your great great grandfather. He will make a great ruler one day. Even if he has no interest in it."
"I would love to meet him."
"I will send him to you shortly. He is in a meeting right now. It should only be about five more minutes."
She had a feeling that he was supposed to keep her occupied. She just didn't know why? She couldn't help but wonder what Maxius was up to. She really wanted to get to the hotel. However she had more questions for Ezekiel. She just wished Maxius was the one going with her. However he was busy and she was a big girl and could handle herself. Plus she was about to meet one of her cousins. She couldn't believe it. She should have come here sooner. On the other hand she was glad she met and fell in love with Maxius. Holy shit she thought. Am I really falling in love with him?
