" What-?"

I couldn't help the pain that was on my chest. I felt like I was about to have a heart attack. I felt tears filling my eyes rapidly and could FEEL my heat break.

I gasped for air and asked again, " Wha-?"

The lady on the desk looked at me weirdly. It was written all over her face, she wanted me to leave her the hell alone. But this was my friend, at least that's what I still thought of her.

" Can you please check again?" I asked quickly.

I couldn't afford losing her. It was Madison! I couldn't- no. What if she died on the Bus? This was all my fault. I shouldn't have kissed Kyle. I didn't even mean to but I could have at least tried to make her listen but instead I made it worse. I insulted her which led her to taking that Bus.

I didn't knew what I would do if she died. I wouldn't be able to live. I've never been really good at dealing with guilts and if she died because of me, I'd probably just kill myself to not have to live with the thought haunting me, " You killed her." I thought.

The lady fixed her glasses and crossed her hands over her chest," Miss, I know how to do my job. I don't need anyone telling me to recheck things. If I said she didn't make it, she didn't."

I looked right into her eyes, looking for something; trying to make her listen to me but it seemed that she didn't like doing her work and she looked very exhausted.

" That's not what I meant Ma'am. I'm- I'm sorry can you please just check it again." I pleaded.

A line started to form behind me and I couldn't breathe normally anymore.

The lady stood up from her sit, her face turning red in anger, " I have a line behind. There is no Madison here. If you would please leave , because I've been doing my work for about 20 years. I don't need you to tell me how to do it," she paused," Now if you would please step aside."

"No. No," I felt the tears in my eyes escape. " Please just check it again!"

The lady placed her hands on her hips and yelled a bit too loud," Young lady, get out of my line. I have a job to do."

" Well you aren't doing it right then! Cause Madison- Madison is supposed to be alive! She- she can't be dead! Check the list! Check it! She's alive!" I shot back.

"Security! Martha," the lady at the desk yelled at the lady sitting a bit far away from her," Get security!"

"No! Please-!"

I was cut off by Martha, " I called security, but can someone tell me what's going on?"

"I'm here for someone! Madison Howard! She's supposed to be here! But she doesn't want to check the list again!" I cried.

Security came over and the lady at the desk said, " Get her outta her please."

"No! Please listen! She's here! Please just check the list! She has to be! Please!" I fought as they tried to carry be out of the hospital. Everyone was staring at me but I didn't care.

"Let go! She has to be! Please check!! Please!" I cried. I mean like I cried a lot. I couldn't hold back the pain that I was feeling.

Right before the security guards were about to kick me out of the hospital Martha spoke,"Wait!"

" Let me take a look at the list myself. If Madison is on the list, then you let her go and if she's not then kick her out."

I heard the lady at the desk ask," And who gave you the authority to do so?"

" The boss. " Martha answered, "Ever since I became the new assistant manager."

The lady at the desk's jaw dropped.

"And you didn't tell me this why?" The lady at the desk asked.

"Because I wanted to see the look on your face when I did. And enjoy the pleasure. And that's what I got." Martha smiled.

Martha took the list and looked over it.

" Madison was it?"

"Y-Yeah. Madison Howard." I answered.

"She's here. " Martha replied.

The security guards moved away from me and went on about their business.

"Really?" I asked smiling through my tears.

"Yes dear." Martha replied. Martha turned around to the lady on the desk, " And for you, you're fired."

"What?!"

"You messed up again. You've been coming in late and you're not doing your job well enough. So you're fired."

"But-" she tried to make an excuse but that didn't help.

"End of conversation. Pack up your things and leave by the end of the day."

Martha turned to me, " And for you, Madison is in room 216 but you'll have to wait for a while before seeing her."

At first I was scared of how Martha sounded but then she flashed me a smile before leaving.

" Thank you." I said.

Before I walked the hall way to go find Madison's room, I looked behind at the lady at the desk and she throw me a death glare.

I swear if looks could kill, I'd be dead. That's how mad she looked.
