Chapter 51- Hurt Again

Silence followed Draco's announcement during the Prefects' meeting. Then confusion ensued after his words had sank in.

The Gryffindors, except for Ginny, couldn't believe that their Princess would date the ex-Death Eater, they were quite angry about it.

The Ravenclaws, except for Luna, thought that Hermione was stupid to fall to the snake's charm, since they think he will just use her.

The Hufflepuff's were somehow amused about the whole situation.

While the Slytherins were thinking that maybe their Prince has an evil plan after all. They were still quite unsure on where to stand after the war, that is why they were just watching and waiting.

Hermione was quite angry herself, she was not sure she wanted people to know yet about their relationship. They had just been a couple an hour ago, then he has to make his stupid announcement. They should have talked about it first, then tell their friends afterwards. She knows that her friends will not take it so well, especially Harry and Ron, and she doesn't want them to know about it through other people. She is sure that rumors about Draco and her will spread quickly throughout the school and outside too, because of Draco's carelessness.

"Draco's just joking, guys," Hermione said firmly in a loud voice, standing up. "He meant that we are already friends," she added, giving the prefects a smile.

"Of course that's just it," Dennis piped up. "Our Princess won't date someone like him," he added grinning, happy that it was not true.

"Of course our Prince won't date your Princess. Daphne told us Draco was dating her just last night," Tabitha told them, sneering. How in the world will our proud Pureblood Prince would want to date a muggle-born filth, she thought.

Draco tried to calm himself, he was hurt that Hermione's denying their relationship. What's her problem anyway? He thought angrily. She should have been happy that I am proud that she's my girlfriend, he thought again.

"Meetings over," Draco announced in his authoritative voice. "I've got to find Daphne, my girlfriend," he added to Hermione's ear, sneering. He then walked out of the classroom leaving Hermione.

The prefects moved out of the room once they were dismissed, except for Hermione's two friends. They waited until everyone else were gone before they approached a crestfallen Hermione.

Hermione has her hands covering her face, ashamed from her callousness towards Draco's feelings.

"Hermione, what's wrong?" Luna asked her friend kindly.

Hermione removed her hands from her face, then sighed. "I was so stupid, Luna," she told her.

"What's the truth, Hermione? Draco looked pissed at you after you contradicted his announcement," Ginny asked her.

"He was actually telling the truth, Gin. But I got scared," Hermione told them truthfully.

"But why? He looks so happy when he told us you were his girlfriend," Luna asked calmly.

"I guess I was not ready yet for everyone to know about us. I mean, I want to tell you guys first privately, not announcing it to everyone just like that," she explained to the two.

"You should have been flattered, really. I mean, it's not everyday someone will tell the whole school about having a girlfriend. And it's Draco Malfoy making the announcement, he never did girlfriends as the whole school knows," Ginny told her friend.

"He looks so hurt, Hermione," Luna told her.

"Yes I know, it was stupid of me. I need to talk to him immediately. I don't want him to be mad at me again," Hermione told the two. "We'll talk again later, I need to find Draco now," she added, standing up.

"We will help you search for him," Luna offered.

"Yeah, we will help you. Let's go," Ginny agreed.

Draco was so pissed and hurt. He thought that Hermione would be glad that he was willing to tell everyone about their relationship since that would mean that he was sincere. He really loves her and wanted to prove it. But she just denied them right in front of his face. It hurts a lot, loving someone like he did Hermione keeps hurting all of him. Maybe, he was wrong to love her since she won't be able to love her back.

He went back to the Common Room, not really wanting company. He just couldn't contain his frustrations anymore, so in a fit of rage, he manually trashed their common room until he was so tired to move. He fell asleep in one of the couches feeling drained of energy, and not a bit relieved.

Hermione, Luna, and Ginny searched for Draco inside and outside the castle, except for the Head's Dormitory. It was already lunch time when they stopped looking for the Head Boy, hoping that he will show up during lunch at the Great Hall.

Lunch came and went but still there was no sign of the blonde boy.

Luna was also seated at the Gryffindor table across her girl friends and beside Neville. "I'm going now. I need to do my homework," she told her friends. "Hermione, maybe he's at your dorm since we have not searched there yet," she added.

"Yes, maybe he is. Thanks, Luna," Hermione replied smiling at her friend.

Luna stood up and skipped out of the hall.

"Hermione, is it true that Draco announced to the prefects that you were already friends?" Neville asked quietly.

"Who told you that?" Ginny asked him curiously.

"I just heard Dennis Creevey tell his friends at the Gryffindor Common Room before lunch," Neville replied.

"Yes, he did Neville. I need to go now too, Gin," Hermione said, standing up. "Bye, guys," she added to the two.

Hermione walked fast towards the Head's Dormitory, hoping that Luna was right about Draco being there. She had told Ginny and Luna about Draco's feelings about her while they searched for him. It was no wonder he was that hurt, Ginny told her when she told them that he confessed that he loves her. Luna told her that Draco must really mean it, after all, he has announced it during the meeting. Hermione felt sadder at her friends words, knowing that she has hurt Draco badly.
