Forty Five - Artemis

The drive to my new home was long, but there wasn't a dull moment. Everyone in the family was coming to help me settle into the new flat so both cars were full and Calisto was driving his own car separately.

I had joined him in his car, it was just him and his shadow - Basilio, who was now sleeping.

"Artemis?" Calisto wondered, I looked at him and nodded for him to continue

"You know me and my girlfriend?" I smiled with a nod, those two were the sweetest. Absolutely smitten with each other...

"Everything okay with you two?" I stopped my smile when I realised this might not be a happy conversation.

"Yes! Lord, yes. I...you can't tell anyone what I'm about to tell you, please" he pleaded and a worried look came over my face.

"You know I can't promise that unless I know what it is" I explain. During my time at the hospital we had worked on my instinctual 'yes' and how to overcome it.

"She's Pregnant" He blurts and I choke on my air

"It's mine, don't worry. But we...ah...I needed to tell someone and I don't think I can tell our Mamma's yet" he anxiously laughed and I nodded

"What are you going to do?" I asked, a baby is not a small task. I'm confident he can handle it, but he won't be able to hide it.

"We discussed that...we aren't sure exactly, we have to decide soon but we haven't even told our parents" he mumbled and I nodded.

"Her parents will flip...so will mine...she just received confirmation of a full-ride scholarship too." He sounded hopeless and I couldn't help but feel bad for my brother

"It'll be okay, things have a way of working out" I told him as I gently patted his back

"I just feel so shitty. I've completely de-railed her life plans..."

"I'll call her. Maybe she'll appreciate talking to her future sister-in-law" I joke and he nods

"Haha, yea..." He trails off into silence. We sit there with some music as I watch the world go by, until Basilio wakes up and starts laughing. "I haven't ruined her life have I?" He mumbled anxiously, and I could tell it was eating away at him.

"It's going to be okay Cal" I try to reassure him and he just nods as we continue to drive.

After an eternity of driving, the block of flats came into view and I smiled, my own home. My very own home!

As soon as the car was parked, I immediately hopped out and got dandelion out before rushing towards the block of flats. Mum came quickly and handed me the key so I could unlock the front door and enter the lobby. I looked around and smiled.

For the first time in my life, I'm truly free.

Dandelion was wagging her tail like mad as she looked up at me whilst I signed in at the desk. We wandered to the door which led to my apartment. My family stood behind me with suitcases and I opened the door with the key
