Fifty Eight - Ginevra

"Atlas, stop chasing your brother please." I called out to my son as I mixed the cake batter with Luna in the baby sling. My daughter was coming over and we were going to finally be meeting her Boyfriend properly at long last. I was so excited! Calisto rang me last night to let me know his babies arrived, so we were going to see them when Aly had a bit to relax. Eleni had visited their apartment to make sure it was tidy for them when they got back. Apparently the babies would need to stay in the hospital for a few days, and i knew Aly would be upset about leaving them.

"Emi, do you want to mix?" I offered to Emiliano, one of the older twins. He tended to be highly introverted, and because of that he often got left off of invitations - the Evander was off at a birthday party today but Emi had been forgotten. Yet again. my poor baby. he was a sweet kid but people never gave him a chance to come out of his shell, and so he rarely did.

"Yeah, thank you!" He grinned as he took over whilst I started the next step. I noticed the sadness in his movements earlier so made him cook with me. It always seemed to cheer him up.

"What time are they getting here?" He asked, i sighed as I started looking at the clock I hummed as I counted out the hours. I'd never finished formal education, and never started secondary school, due to the whole incident with William. I was doing courses in my free time but it was still difficult to do basic tasks like telling the time, especially with my Dyslexia.

"Uhm....one?" I say, unsure of myself and he nodded.

"Thank you. Oh! Uhm, there's someone at school..." He trailed off excitedly and I suppressed my sadness. He was such a smart, sweet boy and everyone who made the effort to know him instantly loved him - he was always full of energy around those he trusted... It's a shame he gets too anxious at school.

"Oh?" I smile, I wasn't going to tease him, it was genuine curiousity

"Yep! H-She's new to the school and is very kind, I wanted to be hir friend but they didn't hear me when I tried to speak. My throat went dry and instead now they're friends with the popular kids and Evan so I don't stand a chance." he sighed, finishing his story. I always had a little inkling about his preference, and I took notes on the way he referred to this 'girl'

"Oh, I'm sorry Emi. Hopefully they'll interact with you soon" I suggest and he shook his head

"No...they're only in a few of my classes, and they dont seem like the type who'd be friends with the weird Anxious kid" he sighed again. My poor baby.

"Give it time. How are you feeling about meeting your sisters boyfriend?" I wondered out loud as we put the batter in the tins and then the oven.

"I'm worried he won't like me. I know the others have spoken to him before but I haven't so I'm really anxious. I know nothing about him!" I smiled at how easily he expressed his feelings to me.

"If Artemis has picked a man, I think she's got a good head on shoulders so I doubt she'll have gotten a bad one." We clean the kitchen together as we continue talking. Atlas toddled back in, leaving Basilio with Eleni

"Ma!" He squeaks as I pick him up

"Si?"

"The doorbell went DONG DING" he yelled the noise at me whilst talking. I finished cleaning and took my apron off but keeping the baby sling on as Luna watched the world around her. Heading to the door, I took a breath before opening it

"Ma!" Artemis smiled, throwing herself gently into my side for a hug, smiling at little baby Luna as she did so

"This is Nathan, my boyfriend" she looked up at the tall man who was holding flowers and a bag with some gifts.

"It's a pleasure to meet you ma'am" he held a hand out for me to shake and I grinned. His southern accent was definitely stronger in person.

"Of course, pleasure is all mine. Come in, it's lovely to finally meet you in person!" He walked in before handing me the flowers and smiling as Leora our cat came into the room to greet him

"Mama! Look!" Atlas screeched as he came into the room and saw the tall man standing, before running around Nathan, Nathan chuckled as Artemis tucked herself into his body

"I know baby, come on" I held out my hand and led us all to the living room where Basilio and Eleni were sat. Basilio looked unsurely at him as he sunk himself further into my wife's side.

"Take a seat, I'll grab a vase for the flowers" I indicate to the room as he hands them to me

"Thank you. I know everyone else was out today, but I bought some gifts for this bunch. Is that okay?" the country man smiled cheerfully as Artemis clung onto his arm.

"Of course, you can hand them out now if you like" I smiled before leaving the room to search for a vase for the lovely bouquet. I sorted the flowers out before heading back into the living room where the kids were waiting with their gifts.

"She's back!" Atlas grinned as he waved a gift that was wrapped in paper with little toy cars on it, Basilio was holding a gift wrapped in paper with a detailed map of our state printed on it and following the lines on the map carefully, and Emiliano's had a book print. I looked to my wife who held two packages, both individually wrapped in paper with pretty patterns painted on, and there was one smaller one in brown paper

"Wow, you went through all this effort? You shouldn't have gone through the trouble" I asked him, shocked. My daughter smiled at him with rolling eyes before back at me with a grin

"I told him that, he wanted" she smiled, lovesick.

"It's not a problem. I want to make a good impression on your family. I see a future with your daughter. first impressions are lasting ones, and your-"

"Don't!" Artemis covered his mouth with a laugh

"Don't what?" I ask and he just smiled at me

"Nothing. Nothing at all. Open your gifts!" Artemis encourages. Basilio didn't, he obsessed over the wrapping paper instead, tracing it in his own little world

"Ohmygosh!!" Atlas shrieked, making basilio jump a little as I sat next to Eleni who gave me a kiss and took Luna from me "ma! Ma! Its a tamsformer!" He shook the toy at us before launching himself into an unsuspecting and unprepared Nathan who just laughed and smiled

"I take it I picked the right one?" His country accent sweetening his gentle nature "you want to open your gift?" He asked Basilio who was absolutely engrossed in the wrapped present and hadn't even gotten to open it yet. My youngest son looked up, confused. Artemis shifted off as Atlas demanded her attention and Nathan went down to sit on the floor next to Basilio's seat and helped him open it. He couldn't contain his smile as he opened the gift. It was a blow-up earth and Basilio gave Nathan a big hug making my heart melt

I hope he marries my daughter.
