Oh my god. She's closed her eyes. Why is she sleeping?!
"Artemis, I need one more push, you're being so strong but we can't stop now." The midwife looked up as the other nurse placed the baby my my hands and onto her chest. I moved to grab the sick bag as she lurches again.
"Artemis?" The nurse tapped her, waking her up. "One more push sweetheart. One more" she encouraged and my gorgeous wife looked tiredly at the baby on her chest and her hand barely squeezed mine on her final push, concern filled me as she fell back asleep. The midwife immediately calmed down as soon as the little baby was out, my heart dropped when we didn't get a scream - but the nurse smiled and gave me a nod as she tickled the baby's foot. She was okay.
"Why isn't she crying" my beautiful wife asked, exhausted and confused and now teary eyed
"This little one is okay, her heart is stable and she's breathing normally. It looks like she doesn't want to cry, but otherwise she's healthy" the quiet baby was placed on arts chest, next to the other one.
"Art?" I kissed her forehead and smiled at the settled babies on her chest. "Hey, look." I smiled to her with a soft whisper
"Dad, you want to cut their cords?" The midwife offered and I nodded with tears in my eyes. Going and following instructions before heading back to the top. The babies were snuggled up and I smiled. My very own little family.
"Thank you so much." I smiled and the midwife nodded, handing me some tears
"A feeding consultant will be around in about an hour or two, but for now let her have a nap. Those two bassinets are for the babies, when her or you get tired put them in there, the hospital bands have numbers on, and they along with the colours correspond to the bassinet labels. If you need anything just click the button." She showed me the button and her team congratulated us again before leaving
"Nate" Art mumbled as the babies started to wiggle and I smiled "take them, please." She begged and I smiled, gently taking our two little girls one by one and placing them down, when I went to place our second one, the silent one, down she started to quietly cry so I kept her in my arms. She was so tiny and sweet. Her little eyes were the same as Artemis', but she had my hair, born with a full head. My god she was beautiful.
I rocked her gently as her little arms and head curled into me. I tried to put her back down and succeeded. Both babies were sleeping peacefully as I went to the chair between the babies and arts bed.
Opening my phone, I also opened a group chat up
