Forty-Five

LAST YEAR WAS a blast for Warren. He celebrated New Year's Eve at William and Eleanor's house again. It was a very loud celebration because they did karaoke, played bingo cards, and charades. But when the clock hits midnight, all of them went outside to watch the fireworks display hosted by every family that lived around the neighborhood.

At first, Warren was stunned because he didn't expect that every single family in David's neighborhood would have their own fireworks display.

The streets were also bustling with people, who were busy drumming their own cooking pots and creating high-pitched noises.

It was quite a memorable experience for Warren, and he was glad he got to experience it with the person he loves.

Last year may have its own imperfections, but it was a very fulfilling year for Warren, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

FIRST WEEK of January came, and things have been going smoothly in David and Warren's lives.

It was a bright and sunny day outside, which is a perfect day to bask under the sunlight and get some vitamin D. However, instead of going outside, David decided to start his day by watching the live match his team was having in the World Cup.

Warren, who wanted to have some physical connection with David, joined him on the sofa. David welcomed him with open arms, and he spooned Warren as they watched the match together.

David was the big spoon, while Warren was the little spoon.

"I don't know what's happening, but it seems like your team is winning, yeah?" Warren asked and twisted his head to look at David.

"I guess you could say that," David answered and met Warren's gaze. "I mean, they already won the recurve and compound bow matches. Now they have a five-point lead for the mixed match, and this is the last round already. Malabo nang makahabol sa kanila 'yang kalaban nila."

Tanging tango lang ang sinagot ni Warren at ibinalik ang pagkakapatong ng kanyang ulo sa braso ni David saka nagpatuloy sa panonood.

His eyes widened a fraction when he saw that Riley scored another 10 points. That's three times in a row now.

"Wow. Anderson is a beast," Warren commented in awe. He watched the replay where Riley's arrow penetrated the target.

David did the same thing in one of his matches in the Philippine Archery Competition. No wonder they're best friends. Warren thought.

"I haven't paid attention to Riley during the PAC since you're the only person I'm looking at, but watching him right now gives me the impression that you two are almost on par with each other," Warren said, his eyes still fixed on the television.

David couldn't help the grin that ghosted his lips when he heard what Warren said.

Tama yan, Warren. Sa 'kin ka lang dapat nakatingin lagi.

"Well, he's my best friend after all," mayabang niyang sabi bago inilapit ang tungki ng kanyang ilong sa likod ng tenga ni Warren.

David sniffed Warren gently and reveled in his earthy scent that he loved so much.

"Is that why you weren't that concerned when your team joined the World Cup without you? Because Riley was there? That even without you, your team would still win the World Cup because of Riley?" Warren's question broke the trance David's mind was swimming in.

David backed away and looked at Warren over his shoulder. Warren was still watching the game with a calm expression.

Suddenly, David felt challenged. He wanted to break Warren's composure. He wanted to see Warren crumble into pieces because of him.
