Taylor ran her fingers through her hair. She shut her locker and headed out to the school lot, where she saw you waiting just beyond the gates.

You smiled at her and held up a tote bag.

You walked into the lot and handed her the tote, pecking her cheek.

You could sense a few stares on you both as your lips pressed to her skin, but you couldn't give less of a shit.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, giggling as you took her hand and pulled her towards a table by the gates.

"Just thought I'd get my girl her lunch, you know?" you shrugged as you sat down beside each other.

Taylor pouted, "I'm your girl?"

"Who else would be?"

She chuckled happily and leant against your shoulder.

You got her lunch out for her. You'd made one of her favourites; risotto. You'd also baked her a batch of cookies, which she had given you the recipe to.

As you opened the Tupperware containing her lunch and gave her a bite, she smiled in delight. "This is delicious," she said. "How did you manage to make it taste better than my mom's?"

You shrugged, laughing, "Trade secret, baby girl. A punch of love... a dash of magic."

She giggled. "Well, it's working wonders. Thank you for making my day, love."

"Anytime."

As you fed Taylor, occasionally having to take bites yourself, courtesy of her forcing, the two sophomore girls who had harassed your girl a fortnight ago came up to the both of you.

Brooklyn put her hand on her hip while Tanya folded her arms over her chest.

"What have we here?" Brooklyn asked.

Taylor scooted closer to you, lowering her head. You put an arm around her.

You glanced up at the two, unbothered but ready to defend Taylor. "Can I help you with anything? AP Calc homework, maybe?"

Tanya scoffed, looking offended. She looked at Taylor. "Just checking in on Greenwood's new power couple," she said.

Taylor winced. She groaned softly and put her head in her hands, evidently embarrassed.

The two seemed to revel in causing discomfort, and pressed further. Brooklyn spoke up, "Must be thrilling, Swift. Dating someone older. A lot older."

That was true. You were six years older than Taylor, but you loved her with all your heart, and you knew she did, too. Sure, there was a thrill in the relationship, but that was because you both equally made the other's heart race with love - and no, not in the we-may-or-may-not-get-caught kind of way, nor in the we're-rebels kind of way.

You met their judgemental gazes with a calm demeanour. "Thrilling, sure. But it takes some maturity to understand."

Brooklyn rolled her eyes and continued, "I have to say, I didn't think you'd last long, Swift, what with the whole age difference thing."

Taylor groaned, but it came out muffled because of her hands over her face.

"Whatever," you say, brushing off their negativity.

Brooklyn persisted, "Seriously, how do you even talk? It's like dating a professor or something."

"It's absolutely none of your business," you answer dismissively, deciding you were done with the conversation, when a familiar face approached. It was Mrs. Anderson, the school counselor. She had overheard the tail end of the conversation and stepped in, her presence commanding attention.

"Is there a problem here?" Mrs. Anderson inquired, raising an eyebrow at the two sophomores.

Brooklyn and Tanya exchanged nervous glances, suddenly realizing they might have crossed a line. Mrs. Anderson continued, "I expect better behavior from students. If you have an issue, there are appropriate ways to address it."

The girls stammered out weak apologies before hurrying away, leaving you, Taylor, and Mrs. Anderson in a more peaceful atmosphere.

Mrs. Anderson turned her attention to you with a supportive smile. "I'm sorry you had to deal with that. If ever you need someone to talk to, my door is always open."

"Thanks, Mrs. Anderson. We appreciate it," you replied, grateful for her intervention.

After she left, Taylor let out a sigh of relief. "That was unexpected, but I'm glad she stepped in. People can be so judgmental."

You nodded, tightening your grip on her hand. "Don't let them get to you. We know what we have, and that's what matters."

The rest of your lunch continued in a more relaxed manner, the unwanted interruption fading away as you and Taylor enjoyed each other's company. The incident only strengthened your resolve to focus on the love you shared rather than the opinions of others.
