part ii to My Brother's Girlfriend
You're lying in bed. It's a Friday, and you're re-watching your favourite show on your laptop.
It's gonna be a good weekend. There's no school next week and your parents are going to be gone until Wednesday, leaving you and Connor to your own devices for six days.
Both your phone and your laptop buzz with a message.
Taylor 🩷
hey y/n?
You open it up and type out a response.
what's up tay?
connor invited me over to
stay over until wednesday
he said your parents are gonna
be gone
yeah they are
why?
well i wanted to know if you'll
be there
of course i will
ok
great
love you
You nearly choke on air at that last message, your heart skipping a beat as you stare at the screen. The words love you burn into your brain, making your chest tighten and your palms sweat. Did she mean it the way it sounded, or was it just a casual, throwaway phrase?
You type out a response, your fingers trembling slightly.
haha love you too
As soon as you hit send, you cringe. Did that come off too casual? Too eager? You're spiralling, staring at the screen like it will reveal the answers to life's greatest mysteries.
Your phone buzzes again.

can't wait to see you
Okay, now your brain is officially broken. There's no way this is just a casual thing, right? But before you can analyse it any further, your door bursts open, and Connor walks in without knocking, as usual.
"Hey, just wanted to let you know Taylor's coming over later. She'll probably crash in the guest room or something," he says, flopping onto your beanbag chair.
"Cool," you reply, trying to keep your voice steady.
Connor squints at you. "What's with the face? You look like you just saw a ghost."
"Nothing," you say quickly, shutting your laptop and grabbing your phone. "Just . . . tired."
He shrugs, clearly not interested enough to press further. "Whatever. Don't make it weird, okay? I really like her."
Your stomach twists at his words, a pang of guilt and something else---something sharper---cutting through you.
"I won't," you mutter.
Connor stays for a few more minutes, rambling about his plans for the week, before finally leaving your room. As soon as the door closes behind him, you let out a shaky breath.
