surprise part III 😻
Two months. That's how long you cried and tried to get over your ex-girlfriend, who ended up cheating on you after the Eras Tour show you went to.
After that, reality came crashing down upon you.
Seven years, two flings, and one serious relationship, and you've been hung up on the woman who stepped on your heart the whole time.
Your thoughts keep drifting back to that day, that day you had the chance to fix it, to fix you, and yet you fucked it up by telling Taylor you loved another woman.
If you hadn't pushed down that nagging feeling of saying no, of saying you still love Taylor, you two would probably be married by now.
†
"Coffee for Taylor?"
You look up, startled. But then again, it could very well just be some other Taylor. Not Taylor Taylor. Not your Taylor.
But it is.
A woman in sweatpants and a hoodie and a beautiful smile makes her way to the counter, and you lock eyes.
You see her face light up, it's like she's seen a ghost, or maybe a memory she'd buried deep. For a moment, time freezes. The bustling coffee shop fades into the background, leaving just the two of you standing on the precipice of a past neither of you have fully let go of.
You feel your heart rate spike, your palms dampening as you force yourself to breathe. She's right there, the woman you've thought about every day for seven years. The woman you let slip through your fingers.
Taylor hesitates, her hand lingering on the counter as she grabs her coffee. You can see the conflict in her eyes, the same storm of emotions you've been battling for years. The same regret, the same longing.
She opens her mouth as if to say something, but then shakes her head slightly, as if dismissing whatever thought had crossed her mind. She's about to turn away, but before she can take another step, you stand up, your legs moving on instinct rather than conscious decision.
"Taylor," you call out, your voice shaky, betraying the sudden surge of fear and hope rushing through you.
She stops, slowly turning back to face you. Her eyes search yours, and you see a flicker of recognition and maybe — just maybe — a spark of something more.
"I —" you start, but words fail you. What do you say to the person who was once your everything? The person you hurt so deeply, and who hurt you in return?
You're just about to give up and let everything go again. But then she practically launches herself into your arms, coffee and consequences be damned, and buries her head in the crook of your neck.
People are staring. Why wouldn't they be, when a world-famous popstar is hugging some nobody?
But in that moment, you can't bring yourself to care. Because the woman you spent seven years trying and failing to move on from has her arms wrapped around you, her head is buried in your shoulder, she's holding onto you like you are her lifeline, like letting you go would mean losing you all over again.
And you don't know how it happened but one minute you're hugging her in a coffee shop and the next, you are entangled in an embrace, half-dressed, apologetic, and breathless.
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
