~1977 November 18th~
Second grade. The uniforms for this school sucked worse than the uniforms at the previous school. Although, I felt bad for the girls. The girls had to wear skirts even if it was the middle of winter. And Hurricane’s winters were probably the worst in the country. They were only allowed to wear black tights, and that was it. And they had to wear black dress shoes. There was always a distinct difference between how scuffed up the girl’s shoes were. If they were more active or running around a lot, they’d be scuffed up more, like Jordan’s. I liked helping people. If I knew someone was going through a bad day, I’d try to help them. I didn’t have many friends, other than Micheal, Fredrick, and then Jordan. But I wanted to be able to make my own friends without Micheal, because they were mainly Micheal’s friends. He was more outgoing than me. While walking outside for recess, I noticed Ben having a bad day. “Hey, Ben, are you okay??” I asked, quickly walking up to him, wanting to help.
We’d learned today in class that gossiping was bad, and a sin. So I knew if Ben did have something to tell me, I shouldn’t tell everyone. “Shut your pineapple,” He snapped at me. He wasn’t allowed to say shut up, so he’d simply say, “Shut your trap,” or “Shut your hole.” A bit taken-aback from his tone, I stopped following him, and faltered a bit. “Oh, okay-.” I muttered, and started climbing the playground once we got outside. After a little while, Jordan, Frederick, Micheal, Ben, and I, had all started playing tag together. While I was running away from Micheal, who was it, I ran past Ben. Right as he passed me, I heard Micheal cry out in pain. I quickly stopped running, and turned around to see what happened. Micheal and Ben had fallen to the ground, and Micheal was rubbing the back of his head.
Jordan and Fredrick also came to check on them. We all helped Ben and Micheal to the teachers that were watching us for recess, and they took them inside to see the nurse. I was severely worried about Micheal..
When I got home later that day, I put my coat up on the rack. Father wasn’t home from work yet. “Honey, is that you??” My mother called from the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen, and sat down at the table set up against the wall. “Mhm!!” I answered, as I watched her cut the vegetables for dinner. She glanced over to me, and smiled. “So, how was school??” “It was okay, Micheal got hurt kinda badly today though..” “Aww, what happened.?” “We were playing tag, and while we were playing, Ben and Micheal crashed into each other, causing both of them to fall-. Micheal banged his head pretty badly..” Mom looked at me worriedly. “I’m sorry to hear that sweetie-. Would you feel better if I gave a call to his mother, and ask how he’s doing or if she knows-.?” I nodded, really wanting to know if he was okay. She put the knife she was using to cut the vegetables down, and went over to the phone, and dialed Micheal’s mother to check on him for me.
