789 days before the incident

Even though spring had begun barely a month ago, it was a hot day. That’s what you get with the accelerated greenhouse effect.

They were walking down a random road as they held onto each other’s hands. In his right hand Felix held a cone with strawberry ice cream on the top. Hyunjin was just watching the other with adoration seeping out of his whipped eyes.

“It’s so sad, don’t you think?” Felix spoke up with a sigh. They walked over to a bench and sat down, facing the pathetic excuse of a park. Felix noticed a drop of strawberry-ice cream dripping down the side of his cone, seeping in the cracks where it eventually landed in the paper servet he had wrapped around the cone.

“What is sad?” Hyunjin asked. He interlaced their fingers again and like always almost cooed at the size-difference between their hands.
“That we don’t even try to fix this world anymore.” Felix sighed again as he watched another drop of ice cream threatening to be sucked up by the servet. He quickly wiped it off the cone with his tongue. “That everything is about money and not even about life anymore.”

“I’m pretty sure everyone is aware of the fact our earth won’t really last any longer.” Hyunjin sighed.
“Well we’ve known that for about a thousand years now and even before that it had all been about making money. I think the only thing about that time that had been better is that fifty seven percent of the animals that used to live on this earth at that time were still there.” Felix sighed yet again.

They fell into a sad but comfortable silence as Hyunjin kept thumbing the other’s hand. Hyunjin let his thumb run around the multiple rings the other had on his short fingers.
“Anyway, let's talk about something more fun.” Felix stood up and walked towards the trashbin beside the bench to throw away the servet after he stuffed the lower piece of the cone in his mouth before walking back towards Hyunjin.

Hyunjin took a shaky breath and then gulped.
“Uhm, Felix?” He asked softly. Felix looked up and without realisation intertwined their fingers again. He hummed a yes in response.

In his head Hyunjin was hyping himself, pushing himself to ask the question he had wanted to ask for a while now.
But of course he didn’t.

“Wanna go for a stroll?” He asked. Felix looked up at Hyunjin, and cocked up an eyebrow. Both of them were perfectly aware that that hadn’t been the question Hyunjin had /actually/ wanted to ask. But luckily Felix didn't say anything about it and just stood up.

“Sure.” He beamed his infamous smile and pulled Hyunjin up with him. “Let’s go!”

After walking for about half an hour Hyunjin finally took the courage to ask his question. He stopped walking and Felix followed in his action. Hyunjin looked around and took a shaky breath when he noticed that there was indeed no one around.

“I’ve wanted to ask you something for some time now.” Hyunjin started. Felix smirked knowingly but Hyunjin completely missed it. Felix turned towards Hyunjin and stood still in front of him.

“I’ve wanted to ask…” Hyunjin took another shaky breath. “If you’d… uhm…”

Dammit why does it have to be so hard?!

Felix looked at him with calmly waiting eyes, even though his insides were practically being thrown around in anticipation and confusion.
“Take your time.” Felix smiled. Felix took Hyunjin’s hands in his and slowly caressed them with his thumbs trying to calm the other down.
