(Way down We Go • KALEO)
Jisung was practically screaming at the top of his lungs. He had the lifeless body of what once used to be his beloved in his arms.
Hyunjin was frozen in his place. He was sitting on his knees, out of reach of the tentacles. His face was pale. His body was shaking.
He couldn’t believe it. His best friends had actually died.
But was he actually to be considered his best friend? I mean, they had met in the Labyrinth, and formed a pact.
But they had grown close, even if it was in just a month. There was a ringing in his ears. He felt Felix slowly wrap his arms around him, but he couldn’t find the courage and energy to do the same.
“I’m sorry.” Felix whispered. Hyunjin felt tears welling up. Felix pulled Hyunjin closer to him, making Hyunjin fall into his arms. A tear rolled down his face.
Felix softly stroked Hyunjin’s hair while continuing with whispering sweet nothings in his ear. Both completely unaware of the dangerous projectiles flailing around the room. Hyunjin wasn’t even capable of crying anymore. He was much too shocked.
“We need to go.” Seungmin said suddenly. None of the four, I mean three, had seen the man arrive behind the table they were hiding. Hyunjin and Jisung didn’t even look at him.
“Now!” Seungmin said, to strengthen his point. Felix nodded, and turned back to Hyunjin.
“Honey, we really need to go.” He said gently. Hyunjin nodded. He quickly wiped his face. As if woken up from a trance he stood up, pulling Felix with him by his hand, and stumbled towards the sobbing Jisung.“Jisung, we need to go.” He said. His voice sounded much harsher than he had intended it to be. He scraped his throat and sighed. “Now, Jisung.” He said, his voice a lot more gentle this time. Jisung shook his head as he buried his face in Minho’s nape. There was a line of blood slowly descending his face, since his heart had stopped beating.
Hyunjin managed to suppress a wave of nausea. He grabbed Jisung’s shoulder, and tried pulling him away from Minho. He didn’t even try to cover his ears as another loud screech came from the monster, who was finding its way further into the lab.
“Jisung.” He spoke. His voice was gentle, but with a slight danger to it.
“Leave me!” Jisung yelled. “I want to stay here and die!” He cried. Hyunjin had no pity towards the man, maybe a little. He was still in shock, and he wasn’t really capable of feeling anything at the moment.“Hyunjin, we really need to go now.” Seungmin spoke up. His voice was fearful, urgency overflowing. Hyunjin nodded and turned around for a second. He was just able to make out Chan, Jeongin and Changbin out running to the lift. Jun-ho was unconscious in Chan’s arms for all he could see.
He sighed. “Take the machine gun.” He told Seungmin. Seungmin nodded and did as he was told before he left for the lift as well. The lift opened, letting the five people in. They waited.
“Felix, please help me.” He told Felix. Felix gave him a curt smile and obeyed. Hyunjin walked up behind Jisung, and was quick to grab him under his armpits. Without any further hesitation he yanked the man up on his feet, him being much lighter and therefore easier for Hyunjin to carry.
Jisung screamed murder. He kicked Hyunjin in the shin and flailed his arms around. Felix was quick to help.
After a few failed attempts Hyunjin had finally managed to pick up Jisung, bridal style, so he could carry him to lift as fast as possible. Felix held Jisung’s legs together so he couldn’t kick Hyunjin. They made a run towards the lift.
“Watch out!” Felix said before yanking Hyunjin back by his collar, saving his life with that.
They watched as the withering tentacle slowly retreated from the huge dent it had made in the wall. Jisung had stopped trying to escape Hyunjin’s grip and was now crying, his body limp in Hyunjin’s arms.
“Let’s go.” Felix said as the tentacle moved out of the way again, flailing around but missing them by an inch. Felix grabbed Hyunjin’s arm (he would much rather have his hand, but oh well) and runned towards the lift.
The group was hyping them up as they ran as fast as they could. Felix ran in first and Hyunjin jumped in right after.
“Close the door!” Changbin yelled. Chan, who had the unconscious boy still in his arms, looked at Jeongin. The younger nodded and grabbed the boy's right hand with surprising care but with hurry as well. He pressed the palm against a tiny screen in the wall.
“Which floor?” A familiar female voice spoke through speakers no one could see. They saw a metal table fly through the air before the doors finally started closing, in an exasperating speed.
“The sixty third.” Chan said. His voice was shaky. The female voice didn’t return. Once the doors had finally closed, shutting off all sound except Jisung’s heart wrenching sobs, the lift started moving. All let out a breath in relief.
“Put me down!” Jisung suddenly yelled. “Let me go back!”
Hyunjin sighed, but he was much too tired to hold up a struggling Jisung. He put the man down on his feet.“Go back!” Jisung said in a panic. “We need to go back, Minho is-“ He suddenly cut himself off. For a straight five seconds nobody moved, Jisung included.
“Jun-ho.” He mumbled. He suddenly turned in a circle, searching for the boy. “Jun-ho!” He exclaimed madly. He sucked in a breath. The little blood that had been left in his face had now completely drained out.
Hyunjin felt the nausea coming up again. Chan and Jeongin were both staring in front of them. Tears in their eyes, not capable of looking the other’s in the eyes.
The boy in Chan’s arms was completely limp. His head was held up with Jeongin’s hand. A deep purple bruise had formed on a horizontal line on his neck. Broken.
His face was as pale as snow. There was no doubt. The boy was dead.
