(Never • Mag.Lo, O Super)
Hyunjin was incredibly tired. His eyelids felt as if sacks filled with sand was attached to them. He had to drag his body along with him.
It wasn't even that he didn't get enough sleep, that wasn't the problem at all. But if your body is on high alert 24/7, at some point it will break down.
Hyunjin was walking on the dangerous edge of his cliff, the one that will decide when his body will simply give up on him.He slowly walked through the white hallways. Those eerie, empty hallways. In about a minute or so the new target of the day would be announced, and it was his job to kill them.
They had fallen to their last resort, to their very own spite.
Another week, or two, they didn't know, had passed. Too many encounters with monsters, too many rooms they had to enter. They had luckily been able to get food here and there, along with water, so they weren't starving. But was the trauma and stress it brought with it worth it? It should, right? It's all about survival.
The rest of Hyunjin's alliance was still resting, Seungmin was keeping his watch over them. Hyunjin was walking with nothing but two guns in his hands.
He had memorised every pathway he had taken from their 'camp', and he was barely ten minutes away, so he wouldn't get lost.
The only thing that really kept him alive were the memories Felix had left him. Those dreams obviously had a purpose, maybe to take him down or maybe to keep him going. He chose to let it help him instead of taking him down.
He jumped up when he heard the loud pling of his bracelet echo through the eerily silent hallways. He let out a frustrated and shaky sigh as he reached for his right sleeve.
He quickly cropped it up to his elbow and watched the tiny screen light up. At once the robotic female voice spoke:
"Today's target will be." It stopped for a moment. The voice sounded like thunder in the quiet hallways, and it was severely bothering him. "Number." The voice stopped again, as if it was choosing who was going to live in fear for the entire rest of the day, which it probably was doing.
"74, also known as: Do Seong-ho." The bracelet made another 'pling' sound before the tiny screen displaying the number '74' turned off again. Hyunjin was frozen into place.
Where do I remember that name from? He thought. His brain was working at a rapid speed. He was sure he had heard that name somewhere. But where?
Then it hit him like a truck. I was the young boy he had seen in the plane. The boy that had comforted that girl.
He felt his throat tightening. He couldn't kill a kid. He had killed those men that had kidnapped him, but that was in selfdefense. Killing a faceless person for his own survival was hard enough, but killing a literal kid? Even though he had no emotional connection to him?
He stood there for at least ten minutes, not being able to move. His body hurt and his mind was on the edge off simply giving up. His hands started to shake.
A sudden 'BANG' was what made him wake up from his daydream.
He was on high alert immediately. He looked at the way the sound by had come from. In a flash he had drawn the revolver and the police gun. His breath hitched and body tensed.
In a slow pace, Hyunjin took silent strides towards the direction he heard the sound come from. The hairs in his neck stood right up when he heard a whine. A human whine.
Don't let yourself be fooled, Hyunjin. Hyunjin told himself. You've been here long enough to know not to trust anything you see, hear not feel.
He hadn't even realised that he had stopped in his tracks yet again. He let out a silent, shaky sigh to try and release the building stress in his stomach and chest, to no avail.
Another whine, followed by an agonised sob. It was one of those sounds that didn't only make the hair on your body stand straight up, but also the one that made you want to rip off your ears just so you didn't have to endure the pain that it held.
The painful whines slowly turned into agonised sobs. Hyunjin heard something else. It was a hushed voice. It belonged to a male, that was for certain. And for some reason it sounded familiar to Hyunjin.
"Shh, it's ok." The voice said softly. The sobs kept getting louder, and Hyunjin finally realised whom they belonged to. It was a boy's voice, and a certain boy at that.
How he knew was a complete mystery to him, since he had only heard the boy say a few things, but he just knew.
"Shhh." Hyunjin heard the voice again. The man sounded like he was panicking. "Please be quiet, something could hear you." The voice spoke again. Hyunjin didn't move.
"Please kill me!" Seong-ho suddenly yelled. "It hurts!" Another sob. Hyunjin felt his breath hitch.
He was contemplating his choices. From what he had been able to comprehend simply by listening, the boy wasn't able to harm him in any way, but Hyunjin didn't know about the man. He could be armed just as harmful as Hyunjin was.
He was wearing his mask. So that was a thing that worked in his favor. He raised the police gun in front of his body, and the other he held close to his side, as back-up.
He came closer to the hallway's turn. The closer he got there the clearer he could comprehend what was said.
"Please, please, please quiet down." The male said. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears and a very bad anxiety attack.
"It hurts..." Seong-ho sobbed again.
"I know I know, but please calm down." The man said. Hyunjin took a deep breath.
"Please kill me." The boy whispered softly. If it hadn't been for the hallways being completely empty and silent he wouldn't have heard it."I don't have anything to do so, you'll have to wait..." The man said. It was quite obvious the man was referring to having to wait for the boy to die on his own.
Hyunjin stopped breathing for a second. The man had no weapons, as he had literally just said.
Without a second thought he chose to store the police gun away in his pocket. He raised the revolver away from his side and grabbed it with both hands, exactly like you see police officers do in movies.Hyunjin decided keeping quiet was useless at this point. If he'd take two big steps, he'd be around the corner. And that is what he did.
The moment he stepped around the corner the two people fell silent. For a straight 20 seconds nobody moved nor said anything.
The clattering of Hyunjin's gun was the thing that interrupted the silence.
Don't worry, he wasn't hurt. He was simply surprised out of his mind. Shocked, to say the least.
Two reasons:
First reason, the boy.
Seong-ho was resting in a literal lake of his own blood. His right leg was folded all the way up to his chest. Hyunjin guessed that it was broken in at least three places.
His left leg was laying a few meters apart from him, in its separate puddle of blood. There was blood streaming out of Seon-ho's mouth, painting his teeth. His jumpsuit was too soaked with human juice for Hyunjin to make out what was the injury.
A vein had popped in his eye coloring his sclera a soft pink. But apart from the horrid scene in front of him the thing that surprised him the most was by far the person kneeling beside the boy, trying to calm him down.
"Jisung?" Hyunjin exclaimed in pure shock.
