Aditya parked his car in the hospital lot and checked his watch. It was 6:15 a.m. He knew she would be finishing her night shift soon. He made his way inside the hospital, nodding at the receptionist who recognized him.
"Good morning, Mr. Singhania. She's in the ICU, room 12. You can go ahead."
"Thank you. Have a nice day."
He walked briskly to the intensive care unit, where he saw her through the glass window. She wore blue scrubs and a white coat, her long black hair tied in a bun. She was checking on a patient, holding his hand and speaking softly. Aditya admired her compassion and dedication.
He knocked on the door and entered. She looked up and smiled when she saw him. He walked over to her.
"Hi. How was your night?"
"Busy, but good. We had a few critical cases, but they're stable now. How about you? Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah."
He kissed her forehead and handed her the tulips he brought on his way here.
"These are for you. You work really hard."
She blushed and took the flowers. She smelled them and smiled.
"Thank you. They are beautiful."
"I wanted to say something... Actually, maa-"
He was interrupted by a loud beep from the monitor. The patient's vitals were dropping. She quickly handed him the flowers and rushed to the patient's side. She checked the readings and called for assistance.
"Code blue, Room 12. We need a defibrillator."
Soon the room filled with doctors and nurses, and Aditya exited the room, giving them space to treat the patient.
He watched Taniya through the glass, seeing her professional side. She was different—sometimes fragile, sometimes a fierce fighter for others' lives.
When the door opened, revealing Taniya smiling, he knew she had saved another life. She walked over to him, and he took her hand, leading her to her cabin.
She changed her clothes and came out.
"Come on, let's go home. You need some rest."
She nodded, and hand in hand, they walked towards the exit. They said goodbye to the staff and reached his car. He opened the door for her and helped her in. He got in the driver's seat and started the engine.
As they drove home, Aditya's focus was on the road, while Taniya felt the soft petals of the flowers in her lap. Despite being awake the whole night, she was energetic. The song playing in the background was long ignored.
Tenu lakhan ton chhupa ke rakhaan
Akkhaan te sajaa ke tu ae meri wafaa
Rakh apna bana ke
Main tere layi aan
Tere layi aan yaaran
Naa paavin kade dooriyan
Main jeena haan tera...Main jeena haan tera
Tu jeena hai mera
Dass lena ki nakhra dikha ke
Dil diyan gallan
Karaange naal naal beh ke
Akh naale akh nu mila ke
Dil diyan gallan...They reached home and found everyone at the dinner table.
"Good morning," Taniya greeted.
"Good morning, beta," her mother replied. "Have your breakfast, then you can rest."
Kavya sat beside Naira, and Aditya took the seat next to Taniya. As they ate, Kavya spoke up.
"Beta, we've decided that you two are going on your honeymoon next week."
