As soon as Aditya stepped into the house, silence greeted him.
It was eerily quiet, making it seem as if no one was home but it was the afternoon so he knew everyone was probably in their rooms.
Without giving it much thought, he crossed the hallway and climbed the stairs to reach his room.
Taniya was at the hospital last night, so he didn't see her before leaving for court and now, looking at her sleeping form on the bed, a sense of ease settled over him.
Shrugging off his coat, he slipped in beside her.
His arm instinctively draped around her waist, pulling her close. In response, she sensed his presence and instinctively curled into him, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Her familiar scent surrounded him as her warmth pressed against him.
It was the only kindness he had received today.
Only now did he feel like he could breathe again.
His gaze was on her sleeping face, and soon enough, her eyes fluttered open.
"You're home early?" she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep.
"No. You just slept the entire day," he said.
Taniya blinked at him, then glanced toward the window where the light was spilling in and said, "I can literally see sunlight."
"Logically, you can't 'see' light, but never mind." He smirked before adding, "And yes, I'm home. I'll be home for a very long time."
Her brows furrowed and after rubbing her eyes, she sat up slightly to get a clearer look at him.
"What does that mean?"
"It just means your beloved husband is now a man of leisure," he said with a shrug.
"Huh?" She blinked, still struggling to process.
"Remember when I said I'd hand everything over to Veer, and you'd have to earn for both of us?" He leaned in, his tone playful. "I'm finally trying it out. Starting today."
Taniya instantly sat up completely, jerking his arms away, and faced him but she was still relaxed.
After looking at his expression, she pulled him up, her expression turning serious.
"What happened at court? Did they find you guilty? What's wrong?"
He chuckled at her reaction. "Relax, relax! I just stepped down temporarily."
"Why would you do that? Did no one stop you? They need you, Aditya."
But Aditya wasn't in the mood to discuss the company.
Without warning, he grabbed her by the waist, lifting her slightly before settling her onto his lap.
Her back pressed against his chest, his chin resting just above her shoulder.
"Aren't you happy we'll get to spend more time together?" He asked
"I am," she admitted, wiggling to escape, "but not under these circumstances."
As she tried to move away, his hand landed on her stomach to stop her.
Taniya froze.
"It's just temporary," he reassured her. "And I needed time to think about the case. So, I did it willingly."
She was still looking at his hand on her stomach and couldn't process his words, but after a moment, she gained her senses and nodded.
"It's your decision. I'm with you, no matter what." She said.
