She knew she had to tell him eventually about what really happened, about the man's vile words, and about the way it made her feel.
But how could she? She was terrified of seeing disappointment or pity in his eyes.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. Naira poked her head in,"Can I come in?"
Taniya quickly wiped her eyes and forced a brighter smile. "Of course, come in."
Naira walked in slowly, her usual bubbly energy noticeably dimmed. She sat down beside Taniya, fiddling with the edge of her sleeve.
"I wanted to check on you. I don't know what happened yesterday that made you lash out on that man but I am sorry I couldn't do anything".
Taniya shook her head. "You don't need to say sorry, Naira. None of us knew things would go that way."
"But I should've convinced you guys to stay back. I should've noticed when things got out of hand," Naira whispered, guilt heavy in her voice. "I feel like I let you and bhai down."
The sadness in Naira's eyes made Taniya's heart ache.
She reached out and took Naira's hand in hers, squeezing it gently. "You are the youngest among us. We should apologise to you for acting irresponsibly.I am really sorry"
Naira nodded, but her eyes were still clouded with regret. "You can talk to me about anything bhabhi. I won't tell anyone. If you don't want to talk to me about that. You should talk to bhai. He will be always on your side"
The mention of Aditya's name made Taniya's chest tighten again. She knew she couldn't keep avoiding the truth forever, but the fear of opening up still loomed large.
"Maybe later," Taniya said softly, her voice tinged with hesitation. "I just need some time to sort things out in my head first."
Naira leaned in, wrapping her arms around Taniya in a comforting hug. "Take your time. Just don't shut us out, okay? We're all here for you."
Taniya nodded, hugging her back tightly. When Naira finally pulled away and left the room, Taniya found herself alone again with her thoughts.
She lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind replaying last night's events over and over like a broken record. She couldn't remember anything apart from the club.
Only if she knew how Aditya reacted to that piece of information last night that she is now too scared to share.
But now she was contemplating how to begin? How could she put into words the fear and shame that still clung to her?
Tears finally slipped down her cheeks as she curled up on the bed, hugging a pillow to her chest.
She wanted to be strong, to face everything head-on, but right now, all she felt was small and overwhelmed.
The memory of that man's voice, the disgusting way he looked at her, it all kept replaying in her mind, taunting her, making her feel powerless.
Aditya's expression shifted the moment he was alone. The tenderness in his eyes was replaced by a cold determination as he dialed a number on his phone. A dark smile crept onto his lips as the call connected.
He started his car and went ahead. His first stop was to collect a bottle of champagne from an old friend.
The bottle had something more than the liquid .
