A slow, venomous smirk curled on Mr. Shetty’s lips. “Should I be offended that you don’t recognize me?”
Aditya’s blood ran hot the moment he saw him. His fists clenched at his sides, nails digging into his palms. “What is all this?”
Mr. Shetty strolled forward with an infuriating calmness, tossing a file onto the table. “This–” he said, voice laced with mockery “–is the legally registered patent for the same project you just pitched. Now, you tell me what does that mean?”
Aditya snatched up the file, flipping through the documents. His vision blurred with fury. The details, the structure and everything else was similar to the blueprint he had.
He knew that this wasn’t a coincidence.
Murmurs broke out across the room. Mr. Scott’s fingers tapped an impatient rhythm on the table as he frowned. “Mr. Singhania, do you have an explanation for this?”
Aditya snapped the file shut, his jaw tight. “This isn’t his project. I’ve been working on this for a year. He must have forged these documents.”
Mr. Shetty let out a low and dark chuckle. “Forged?” He tilted his head, eyes glinting with amusement. “I introduced this idea before your company even set up this meeting. How exactly could I have fabricated it?”
Aditya’s vision darkened, the rage coiling inside him like a storm. His voice dropped to a deadly whisper. “You stole our work, didn’t you? You planted someone in my company to leak our plans.”
Mr. Shetty’s smirk widened. “I don’t need to stoop to such levels, Aditya.”
It made the last thread of Aditya’s restraint snap.He lunged forward, his fist crashing into Mr. Shetty’s jaw with a sickening crack.
A collective gasp rippled through the room. Mr. Shetty stumbled back, clutching his face but before Aditya could land another blow, a sudden brutal force slammed into his ribs.
Mr. Shetty’s assistant’s fist connected with his chest, sending a sharp pain through his ribs. Aditya staggered back, his vision getting blurry before his legs gave out beneath him.
Ragini’s scream barely registered in his mind. The only thing he could process was the raw, searing pain that coursed through his body as darkness swallowed him.
The rhythmic beeping sound pulled him back from his sleep. His eyelids fluttered open and he saw the sterile white ceiling that was his everyday view a few months back. The scent of antiseptic filled his lungs, and with each breath, his ribs throbbed in protest.
He was sure that he might have wounded himself again. He tried to sit up but before he could, the door swung open and Ragini rushed in. Her face etched with worry and she was accompanied by two uniformed officers.
“Sir, you shouldn't move too much,” she said, her voice thick with concern.
One of the officers stepped forward, his expression unreadable. “You are under arrest for aggravated assault. You need to come with us.”
He looked at the officer in shock as the weight of the situation settled on his chest. His mind couldn't process how he had lost his business deal and his reputation in just a few hours and now he was being taken into custody in a foreign country.
A slow and bitter chuckle escaped his lips.He exhaled sharply, wincing at the pain. “Just a few minutes, officer,” he requested.
The officer exchanged a glance with his partner before giving a stiff nod.
