The morning alarm yanked Aditya out of his dreams. It was the morning after the most unforgettable night with his beloved wife.
On the other side of the room, Taniya’s alarm shrieked without any break but she didn't seem to hear it as she was still peacefully sleeping, blissfully unaware of the alarm that was ringing from the past fifteen minutes.
Aditya got up from the couch, folded the soft blanket and slid both the pillow and blanket back into the closet. He came out with a towel towel over his shoulder and crossed the room to Taniya's bed to switch off the alarm again.
He paused to admire her features and felt his lips curve into a fond smile. She looked so carefree in her sleep as if the whole world was on a pause for her so she could sleep and do her things later.
His heart warmed at the sight and after one final look, he stepped away and tip-toed towards the door to go to the gym without disturbing her sleep.
After forty-five minutes of vigorous exercise later, Aditya returned with sweat gleaming on his forehead. To his gentle surprise, Taniya was still sleeping peacefully.
After taking a shower and getting dressed, he decided it was finally time to wake her up.
“Taniya,” he murmured softly, “it is almost eight. You will be late if you don't get up now” He finished but received no answer from her side so he shook her shoulder with a little more insistence.
“I do not need to go today. It is my day off.” A muffled voice came from beneath the sheets. Aditya smiled and was about to go from there when he saw her arm that was now dangling from the edge of bed.
He took it in his hold so he could settle it inside the blanket but he sensed that her temperature was a bit high. He knelt beside the bed and put his hand on her forehead and surely enough her skin felt warmer than usual.
“Are you okay?” he asked with worry lining his voice.
“I am fine,” she whispered, “just a bit of fever, I think.”
“Let us go to the hos-”Before he could finish his sentence, she turned away from him, drifting once more into her sweet dreams.
Aditya gently covered her with the blanket and retrieved an extra cover from the cupboard, layering them so no chilly air would creep in.
When he was satisfied, he slipped from the room as quietly as a cat and went downstairs where he saw his whole family in the living room. He greeted everyone and took the blessings of elders and
all of them moved together to the long dining table for breakfast. It was like a custom that most of the members had their breakfast together. Everyone except the two younger siblings used to have breakfast together.
However, today the table was complete. Veer and Naira were present too and it was only Taniya who was missing
“Where is Taniya?” Dadu asked with genuine concern in his voice. Since their wedding, Taniya was present at the breakfast table, everyday.
“She is unwell,” Aditya replied.
“ Can you check on her later on” Aditya further added, glancing at his mother and sister.
Kavya’s brow creased with worry. “Did she take medicine?” Kavya asked anxiously.
“Not yet…she is still sleeping.” Aditya replied.
“Let her rest,” Dadi advised.“Maybe she is simply tired after yesterday’s event”
