For a month and a half, they were searching through financial transactions of anything that would project that there was someone else involved with Mr. Shetty but they found nothing.

No proof.

Nothing to clear his name.

Aditya was drained, both mentally and physically.

His routine was the same as usual which included dropping Taniya off at the hospital before heading to the office but today, as he stepped out of the lift, his gaze drifted to the glass-walled meeting room across the corridor.

He could see his father on the head chair with Veer besides him.

A frown etched itself onto Aditya’s face. His father rarely visited the office, and now seeing him in a meeting without his knowledge came as a kind of shock to him.

He walked towards the room with brisk and controlled movements. He had pushed the door open just a bit when he heard a voice.

“This lawsuit is damaging our stock value. The clients no longer trust us.”

There was silence for some moments before one of the senior board members said,“Until this clears up, we need to consider a step down.”

Just when he heard the sentence, he
shoved the door open with force and the sound of wood hitting the hall echoed through the room.

Every pair of eyes in the room turned to him.

“You’re asking me to step down from my own company because of a baseless accusation?” His voice was sharp, edged with fury.

Veer was by his side in an instant. “Bhai won’t step down. He hasn’t done anything wrong.”

Veer’s voice held conviction but when he turned to their father, seeking support, seeking reassurance, there was only silence.

However,Aditya didn’t look at him. He didn’t dare to look at his father.

He couldn’t afford to see even a flicker of hesitation or  a shadow of doubt on the man’s face.

“If he refuses,” an older board member interjected, turning his gaze toward Arjun, “then I propose the chairman call for a vote. We should let the board decide the leadership between the two.”

Arjun’s expression remained unreadable. He neither agreed nor disagreed. After a moment, he stood up, buttoned his suit jacket, and dismissed the meeting without a word.

All day, Aditya was thinking about the decision.

On one hand, he felt selfish. He knew that his connection to the lawsuit was undeniably staining the company’s reputation but on the other hand he also knew that stepping down would destroy him.

It would mean defeat.

Worse, it would mean acceptance like he was finally admiting that he had stolen the idea when he knew he hadn't.

He needed something to ground him, something to keep him from spiraling and at this very instant it was his position.

Resigning wasn't an option.

By evening, he was driving home alone as he didn't have to pick up Taniya cause she was already home.

Meanwhile at their home,Taniya was standing in the washroom, gripping the sink.

Her hands trembled as she stared at the test—the pregnancy test—its two solid lines staring back at her.

Positive.
