As the car glided through the night, Taniya slumped against the window, her laughter echoing in the confined space. The scent of alcohol clung to her, a telltale sign of her tipsiness. Aditya hadn't expected this turn of events.
"Taniya," he whispered urgently, glancing at her flushed face. "Are you okay?"
She giggled, her eyes half-lidded. "I'm fiiine, Adi. Just a little..no....a looooot... *hic*... happy."In the midst of the conversation. Taniya's phone erupted into sound. It was buried deep in her purse which was in the backseat, but she twisted and contorted to retrieve it.
Aditya watched, his expression shifting from curiosity to horror as the caller ID flashed on the screen.
Aditya's mind raced. He couldn't let his mother know. He reached for her phone and snatched it, silencing it as it buzzed with another call from home.
"Why Aditya?" Taniya pouted, swaying slightly. "Mumma was caaaaaaling me."He cut the call. "I'll call her back," he promised, pulling over to the side of the road. His own heartbeat drowned out the ringing in his ears.
He dialed his mother's number, praying she wouldn't notice anything amiss.
"Hello, Tan—".
Taniya seized the moment, elongating her greeting into a drunken drawl."Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii—"
Aditya's hand shot out, covering her mouth. "Hanji, Mumma," he said, his voice steady.
"Aditya? Taniya tumhare saath?" his mother's concern was palpable.
"Veer kahan hai?" she pressed.Aditya hesitated, then replied, "Maa, wo Mai aur vivaan inko raste mein mil gaye aur sabka mann ho raha tha uske ghar jaane ka. To hum wahin pe rukenge raaaaaaa."
Before Aditya could finish the sentence, She bit his hand.
Aditya's eyes widened, and he looked at Taniya who was glaring at him and trying to get her phone back.
"Kya hua, Aditya? Thik to ho?" his mother asked."Ji," Aditya replied, his free hand reaching for both of Taniya's. He held both of her hands and kept them in her lap and leaned towards her, his warmth intoxicating her further.
"Taniya kahan hai?" his mother persisted.
Aditya glanced at her, his face had a smile while looking at her pouty angry expression. "Wo bahar hai," he finally answered, sealing their secret with a peck on her pouty lips.
“Thk hai. Sabka khayaal rakhna aur ache se rehna” his mother answered and cut the call.
He reached the penthouse and carefully opened the door to Taniya's side. Gently, he lifted her into his arms, and she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her head against his chest. The warmth of her breath against his skin conveyed a deep sense of intimacy and trust.
They stood there, holding each other, as the elevator arrived with a soft ding. He pressed the button for the top floor, his heart swelling with affection. The elevator ride was quiet, a tender pause before they reached their destination.
Even as the doors opened, he continued to hold Taniya close. He entered the penthouse, his steps light but purposeful, and made his way directly to the bedroom. As he gently placed Taniya on the couch, he knelt down and began to remove her heels with a careful touch.
Once her feet were free, Taniya pulled them up and gazed around, her eyes wide with wonder. "This is so beautiful. Is this yours?" she asked, her voice filled with awe.
