The room was a chaotic mess, pillows strewn about like casualties of a pillow fight. Taniya's morning had begun with a frantic search for her phone. She couldn't remember where she'd left it the night before, too preoccupied with Niharika's jealousy to pay attention to mundane details.
In her haste, she collided with something solid-a wall, or so she thought. But it wasn't a wall; it was Aditya's chest. The impact made her wince, and she instinctively held her forehead. Aditya held her hand that was on her forehead and rubbed her head gently.
"Lagi kya?" His voice carried concern.
Taniya chuckled, her pain momentarily forgotten. "Now I understand why authors describe chests as walls," she quipped. Aditya laughed leaning down and kissed her forehead, as if his touch could heal the ache.
Maybe it would, ike a mother's kiss in childhood-able to mend anything. Aditya's presence felt like that comforting kiss, soothing her worries.
But practical matters remained. "I can't find my phone. Have you seen it?" Taniya asked, her eyes scanning the room.
Aditya shook his head. "Let me find it for you." He rummaged through drawers, determined to locate the elusive device.
Taniya's frustration grew. "I've searched everywhere. It's nowhere."
"Let me check downstairs," Aditya suggested, handing her his phone. "Call it. Maybe hearing the ring will help."
As he left the room, Taniya typed her name on the search bar but she couldn't find her name in the contact list. She then began scrolling through each contact and there it was-her number saved under the name "wifey<3." A smile tugged at her lips; Aditya's sweet gesture warmed her heart.
Just as she dialed her own number, the door swung open, revealing Aditya.
"I foun-"
He halted mid-sentence, staring at the phone screen. His number flashed as "Aditya." Not what he'd saved. A pang of hurt crossed his expression, but he dismissed it. Petty to be upset over such a small thing, he reasoned.
Taniya took her phone back, swiftly changing his contact name to "Adi <3 ✨." Aditya caught a glimpse of her screen, and joy sparkled in his eyes.
"Let me change the dressing on your wound," Taniya said, leading him to the bed. She treated the wound with care, wincing in empathy whenever she applied the disinfectant. Aditya watched her, his pain forgotten-after all, it was his wife tending to him.
After dressing up the wound he pulled her into his arms, and she nestled against his chest. Moments later, she broke the hug, and he retreated to the washroom while she headed downstairs.
Breakfast was as usual a lively affair, laughter filling the room. But today, Taniya's laughter was absent. Niharika's early-morning presence grated on her nerves. As Aditya and Niharika were talking, Taniya's tolerance waned.
Naira, ever observant, noticed Taniya's discomfort. They exchanged a knowing look, silently teaming up against Niharika.
Taniya sat at the breakfast table, her gaze flitting between her plate and Niharika. The air crackled with tension, and Naira, her partner in silent conspiracy, mirrored her unease.
Niharika leaned toward Aditya, her laughter tinkling like wind chimes. "Adi, you won't believe the deal I closed yesterday. Our company's stocks are soaring!"
Aditya nodded, his eyes on Taniya meanwhile Taniya was still stuck on the name adi ."That's fantastic, Niharika." Aditya replied
Taniya's spoon clinked against her plate, her appetite waning. She'd always admired Aditya's business acumen, but lately, Niharika's presence had blurred the lines. Jealousy gnawed at her insides, and Aditya noticed.
