After dropping Taniya home, Aditya went back to the office and finished the rest of his meetings.

“Time to go home,” he murmured, glancing at his watch. He picked up his blazer and car keys.

When he reached home, his mother and grandmother hugged him warmly and told him everything Mrs. Shekhawat had said.

“Finally, mere Aditya ki shaadi hogi!” Dadi’s smile spread ear to ear.

(Finally, my Aditya will get married!)

“Bohot acha faisla kiya hai tune, beta,” his mother praised, her eyes glistening with tears of happiness

(You have made a very good decision, son.)

Aditya looked at their happiness and decided not to rethink anything. He changed his clothes, had dinner and then went to his room.

As he was about to sleep, his eyes fell on a book lying on the side table. He picked it up, opened it and saw the picture inside.

“I guess I have to move on from you,” he whispered softly. His fingers traced the photo. “I’ll never love anyone the way I loved you.” He shut his eyes tight. “With my marriage, it would be cheating to think about you. I hope you are happy wherever you are.”

For a moment, he almost tore the photograph but at the last second, he folded it neatly and hid it between the pages of the book. Then he went out on the balcony, lit a cigarette, and stood silently, wondering about the path ahead.

Taniya was pacing around her room.

“Ughh… I don’t know what to wear. I am going to meet his family… what can i wear that I will look presentable.I am actually getting married to him. I should wear something traditional,” she said aloud to herself.

She was confused about what to wear for meeting her future in-laws as today she also had to collect her engagement lehenga.

A few days earlier, both families had met and fixed the engagement date which was just a week away. Since it was December, they decided to finish the wedding before the cold became too sharp.

The Singhania family also wanted her to celebrate the New Year with them, since they had already taken her into their hearts.

Finally, she settled on a kurti with jeans that was simple yet graceful.

*Taniya’s POV*

We went to the most famous bridal wear shop in the city. I had already chosen my engagement lehenga but they insisted we look for my wedding outfit too.

I tried so many lehengas but none felt right. I was worried they would think I was indecisive and that they might not like me. They had already finalized their own outfits; only mine and Aditya’s were pending.

Maa-Aditya’s mother-smiled and said, “You pick yours first, then we will match one for Aditya.” They were  so patient with me  but I was still nervous.

Then I saw a lehenga-the lehanga- that felt like it was made for me.

This is the one. I thought

“I want this,” I said finally. Ma helped me into the heavy fabric. When I came out, everyone admired how beautiful it looked. I knew then that I would wear this on my wedding day.

The Engagement Day

The grand hall glittered with golden strings of lights, marigold garlands and diyas flickering in rows. Aditya was standing near the stage, dressed in an elegant sherwani. His face was calm but his hands betraying his nervousness.
