When Annabeth woke up, her head was pounding. She groaned as she sat up. Her mouth was dry and her throat stung. She opened her eyes, and saw that she was in an unfamiliar room. She swung her legs over the side of the bed she was lying in, and slowly stood up. Every bone in her body hurt. Strangely, she couldn't remember anything. She remembered basic things, like her name, her family, and of course Camp Half-Blood, but she didn't remember how she had ended up in this room, or where she was.
She managed to walk out of the room. As she walked down a hallway, she suddenly recognized the place. It was the apartment of Percy Jackson, one of her best friends. What was she doing in Percy's apartment? Shouldn't she be at camp? Annabeth continued to walk through the apartment, until she turned a corner and stood in the entrance of the kitchen.
There was a boy standing in front of her. Though his back was turned to her, she immediately knew who he was. With his jet-black hair and muscular build that she was so familiar with, she knew that it was none other than-
"Percy?" Annabeth managed to croak out. The boy turned quickly, and he looked at Annabeth. At first he looked surprised, but after a second, he smiled.
"Annabeth, hey," Percy said, walking up to Annabeth. "How are you feeling?"
Annabeth looked up at Percy, confused. "I-I'm fine..." she started. "What happened? Why am I here? I can't... I can't remember anything..."
Percy sighed. "Monster attack last night. Manticore. You hit your head pretty badly." Percy reached out and gently brushed his fingers against Annabeth's forehead; a burst of pain shot through her head, and she winced. Percy quickly put his hand back down at his side. "Sorry," he muttered. "I shouldn't have done that. Anyways, you were knocked unconscious. I took you back here and healed you as best as I could."
Annabeth looked down at herself. There were fading white scars on her arms, and many small cuts. She looked back up at Percy, giving him a small smile. "Thanks," she said quietly.
A light blush rose onto Percy's cheeks. "I, uh, I made you some tea," he said, turning away and walking to the counter. He picked up a mug filled with hot liquid, and handed it carefully to Annabeth.
Annabeth thanked him once more, then gripped the mug tightly. She took a small sip, feeling like the mug was going to fall from her hands at any moment.
As she put the mug down on the table, Percy spoke again. "So, you don't remember anything?"
Annabeth shook her head. "What were we doing outside of camp anyways?"
Percy blushed even more. "Uh... I don't know..." he murmured, looking down.
Annabeth furrowed her brow. "Percy," she said. "Why weren't we at camp?" Percy muttered something else inaudible. "What?" Annabeth asked.
Percy hesitated, biting his lip. Then, running his hand through his dark hair. "We were on a date," he said quietly.
Annabeth couldn't help but blush herself. A date? Her and Percy? Really? "So, are we... Something?" she asked quietly, avoiding eye contact with Percy.
He seemed to be doing the same thing, avoiding her eyes. "I don't know," he murmured. "I mean, I guess, but that manticore kind of ruined it... And since you lost some of your memory..."
Annabeth finally got the nerve to meet Percy's eyes. The corner of her mouth twitched up. "Maybe when I'm better," she said, "we could try that date again?"
Percy looked up at her. He smiled, and said, "I would love that."
