"Mommy! Luke stole my doll!" four-year-old Silena Jackson yelled as she ran after her older brother.

"You gotta catch me if you want it!" Luke Jackson called over his shoulder, waving the plush doll in the air.

Luke turned the corner, and ran into a girl.

"Oh, uh, hi Annika," Luke said, blushing.

Annika Valdez- the girl Luke had had a crush on ever since they were five years old.

"Hey, Luke," Annika replied. "What's up?"

"Nothing. I'm just-"

Luke felt something being snatched out of his hand. He looked behind him, and saw a little blonde girl holding a doll in her hands.

"Don't steal my dolls anymore!" she complained. Luke smirked and wrapped his arms around the girl and threw her over his shoulder.

"Luke!" Silena screamed, pounding her fists against her brother's back. Luke simply ignored her, and turned to Annika.

"Come on," he said.

Annika followed him, until they walked into a room, which was occupied by two other teenagers.

Spencer Zhang sat on the couch, with his girlfriend Karina Grace right beside him. They were kissing- as usual. Spencer and Karina had been dating for three years now- and Luke still didn't have the courage to confess his feelings to Annika.

"Child in the room! Child in the room!" Luke called. Karina pulled away from Spencer, blushing.

"By child," Spencer asked, smirking, "Do you mean yourself?"

"Ha-ha, you're so funny," Luke said sarcastically as he sat down on the couch, putting Silena on his lap.

"I know. I'm hysterical." Spencer brushed his hand through his dark brown hair and smiled. Luke had always been a bit jealous of his good-looks.

Little Silena crawled off of her brother's lap and sat on Spencer's instead. Luke knew that Silena liked Spencer, which he found a bit funny because Spencer was thirteen years older than her.

"So, why do you think our parents sent us down here?" Annika asked, sitting beside me. I felt my face turn a bit warm when I felt her shoulder brush against mine.

Karina shrugged. "I don't know. But I don't think that it's fair that Alex and Mason get to listen." Alexander and Mason Grace were Karina's older brothers.

"It's probably just because they're older," Spencer suggested.

"Just forget about it," Luke said. "It's probably nothing. Let's watch a movie!"

"Yeah! Let's watch Insidious. It's supposed to be really scary," Spencer said excitedly.

"Wait!" Annika said, just as Luke was about to start the movie. "What about Silena? She can't watch this."

Luke leaned over and looked at his sister. "Silena, we need to have big-kid time. Can you go upstairs to your room?"

Silena crossed her arms. "But I want to stay here!"

Luke sighed. "Go upstairs and I'll buy you that new doll you want."

The little girl's green eyes lit up and she jumped off of Spencer's lap, then ran out of the room.

"Can someone turn off the lights?" Karina asked just as the movie started.

Annika got up and switched the lights off in the room, making it dark except for the light of the TV screen. And when she came back to the couch, Luke could swear that she was sitting a little bit closer to him than before.

The movie was over after a while. It was pretty scary, but Luke had seen scarier. But he didn't really care, because his heart was nearly jumping out of his chest.

Why?

Because at the start through the movie, Annika had grabbed hold of his hand. Halfway through, she leaned her head on his shoulder.

Sure, they had been in this position many times before; they had been best friends ever since they were two years old. But now... Luke wonder if it was something more... No. Of course not. Annika only liked him as a friend.

"That wasn't that scary," Spencer said.

"Are you kidding?" Karina asked, turning to her boyfriend. "You looked like you were about to pee your pants."

Spencer blushed.

Suddenly, the lights went on. Annika quickly let go of Luke's hand and straightened up as two men came into the room.

One of them was Percy Jackson- Luke's father. The other was Leo Valdez, Annika's father. They both looked sad.

"Hey, dad," Luke said. "What's wrong?"

"You all need to come with us," Leo said. "We need to talk."
