The detention room was boring, as usual.

I sat at my usual desk at the back of the room.

There was one other person in the room.

It was a girl. She was probably my age-17- with curly blonde hair and startling grey eyes. She wore large thick-rimmed glasses, making her face seem small.

I recognized her as Annabeth Chase, a.k.a the school nerd. I've known Annabeth since we were 10, but we've never really been good friends. All I really know about her is that, well, she's a nerd. I wondered why she was in here.

Ms. Banis sat at her desk at the front of the room. She was a quite old, with short and spiky white hair. Her eyes were skimming over a book in her hands.

I heard Annabeth sigh. I glanced over at her and saw her taking off her glasses and setting them on her desk. She looked much better with them off. Annabeth put her chin in her hand and stared blankly at the clock.

An hour passes really slowly.

I counted each time the minute hand on the clock moved. It was completely silent in the detention room.

At four o'clock, Ms. Banis told us we could go and she left. I stood up, about to follow her, when I noticed that Annabeth had not moved a muscle. I walked over to her and shook her shoulder gently.

"We can go now," I said. Annabeth turned and looked at me with her grey eyes. She scrambled to put her glasses back on.

"Oh-oh. Ok. Thanks for telling me." She stood and we walked out of detention. I stood outside, leaning against the wall because I had to wait for the bus to come. Annabeth stood with me.

"So," I said after a long silence, "Why were you in detention?"

"Fighting," Annabeth replied. I laughed. Annabeth looked at me and raised her eyebrows. "What?"

"It's just that... I wouldn't expect that."

"Why not?" Annabeth stepped forward so she was standing in front of me and looking at me.

"Well, no offence, but you're kind of a nerd. And you don't seem like the sort of person to start picking fights. You seem like the kind of person that's quiet, calm, a good girl-"

The next thing I knew, Annabeth was pinning me against the wall. Her body was pressing against mine.

"Do I?" she whispered. Her breath fanned against my cheek. Her hands rested on my chest. They slid down my arms. I almost shivered as she touched my skin. "You know, you shouldn't really judge people." Her lips brushed my cheek. I was too shocked to say anything- or to even move. Annabeth's hands slid back up my arms and wrapped around my neck. She looked at me, a smirk tugging at her lips. She leaned in close to me- her nose touched mine. My heart was in my throat. There was barely any space between my face and Annabeth's. Her lips... Almost touching mine... They separated to form a small O...

"Never underestimate me," she whispered and walked away.
