(Just FYI, I added some of my own ideas so... Yeah.)
"Tyson! Is that cupcake almost ready?" I asked Tyson. He looked up at me with his big brown eye that still kind of freaked me out.
"Yes, Annabeth! All done!" He pulled a tray out of the oven and showed me the square cupcake that he baked. The colour of the cake was a mixture of brown and blue, from the blue food colouring that I added. Tyson and I brought it over to the counter and started putting bright blue icing on the top. After a few seconds, it was ready.
"Thanks Tyson." I said while patting his back.
"Tell brother that I helped make it!" He called after me.
"Ok!" I called back. I walked through camp to the dining pavilion, were I saw Percy sitting at the Poseidon table by himself.
"Hey," I said, sliding on the bench next to him. "Happy birthday." Percy looked at the cupcake, then me.
"What?" He asked.
"It's August eighteenth. You're birthday, right?" I said. I really hoped that I wasn't wrong. It would've been so embarrassing giving someone a cupcake and saying happy birthday when it wasn't even their birthday. But Percy smiled, and I knew that I was right.
"Make a wish." I said.
"Did you bake this yourself?" Percy asked.
"Tyson helped."
"That explains why it looks like a chocolate brick. With extra blue cement." He said. I laughed. I had to admit, it wasn't the prettiest cupcake I had ever seen. Percy looked at the cupcake for a second, then blew out the candle. He broke it in half and we ate it with our fingers. Percy had a lot of icing on his fingers, so he cleaned them by using my face. I did the same, and we broke into laughter. After we finished, it was silent for a while. All I could hear was the crickets and monsters in the woods. The water was calm, and I kept wondering if Percy was making it like that.
"You saved the world." I said after an awkward silence.
"We saved the word." He added.
"And Rachel is the new Oracle, which means she won't be dating anybody." I said.
"You don't sound disappointed." Percy pointed out. I shrugged.
"Oh, I don't care."
"Uh-huh." I raised an eyebrow.
"You got something to say to me, Seaweed Brain?"
"You'd probably kick my butt."
"You know I'd kick your butt." Percy rubbed his hands together, brushing the cake crumbs off.
"When I was at the River Styx, you know, turning invulnerable... Nico said I had to concentrate on one thing that kept me anchored to the world, that made me want to stay mortal." I stared at the sea, not even daring to look at Percy.
"Yeah?"
"Then up on Olympus, when they wanted to make me a god and stuff, I kept thinking-"
"Oh, you so wanted to."
"Well, maybe a little. But I didn't, because I thought- I didn't want things to stay the same for eternity, because things could always get better. And I was thinking.." Percy's face was turning bright pink.
"Anyone in particular?" I asked, my voice softer that usual. He looked at me, and we locked eyes. I was trying my hardest not to smile.
"You're laughing at me." He whined.
"I am not!"
"You are so not making this easy." Then I laughed for real, and wrapped my arms around Percy's neck.
"I am never, ever going to make things easy for you Seaweed Brain. Get used to it." Before I knew what I was doing, I leaned in a kissed him. My heart felt like it was going to leap out of my chest and land on my lap. (Ewww, how gross would that be? What a way to end a kiss!) Percy started to kiss me back, when a voice behind us growled, "Well, it's about time!" We broke apart, and I saw what looked like the whole camp crowded around the dining pavilion. Clarisse led the way as the demigods hoisted Percy and I onto their shoulders.
"Oh come on!" Percy complained. "Is there no privacy?"
"The lovebirds need to cool off!" Clarisse yelled.
"The canoe lake!" Connor Stoll shouted, pumping his fist in the air. With a bunch of cheers, they carried us down the hill. Fortunately, they kept Percy and I close enough so we could hold hands. I kept on giggling, and I was blushing real bad. Percy's hand had turned warm, but I didn't care. We kept on holding hands until they threw us in the lake. Percy made an air bubble for us, and we swam down until we were sure that everyone on shore couldn't see us. Percy put his hands on my waist and we kissed again. My fingers tangled themselves in his messy black hair. I could still hear a couple shouts from the surface, but I had a feeling that we would probably be here for a while.
And it really was the best underwater kiss of all time.
