"10 more of those and your good for the day." Coach told me as I continued to pull myself up on the pull up bar. "Good, practice today everyone." The coach said as he walked out of the GYM. "You're getting pretty bulky." One of the older guys said to Jake.
Me on the other hand though, I wasn't sure if I could see my results yet. "We going to that party tomorrow night?" Brady asked us. "Maybe and maybe not." Jake said to Brady as we changed out of our sweaty clothes. "What's that supposed to mean? Brady asked confused. "Uh, nothing." I said.
"You guys, uh I'll catch you later then." Brady said as he began his walk home. "Coach needs to see you." Logan said to me. "For what?" I asked confused. "He didn't say, but if I were you I'd go see him." Logan told me. My heart was starting to pound and I could feel myself starting to shake.
Before I knew it everybody was gone and it was just me in the locker room now. I took some deep breaths and I nocked on the Coaches office door. "Come in." He said. "You wanted to see me?" I asked. "You've been missing a lot of practices lately." He said to me. "Yeah, I'm going to make up for it I promise." I said as I took a seat in front of his desk.
"That's not why I asked you here." He replied to me which surprised me. "Why exactly then am I here?" I asked anxiously. "Your teachers have been telling me that you're not doing well in their classes." He said to me. "They're lying." I said, which wasn't the whole truth. "Not according to your report card Thomas." The coach explained to me.
"Are you kicking me off the team then?" I asked him. "I should but, I'm not gonna do that because you're one of our best fighters on this team, but son let me tell you one thing..." The coach started to say. "What would that be?" I asked. "I worked something out for you to get those grades up." The coach explained as he called in my case worker. "Why's she here?" I asked confused.
"Because, I asked her to tutor you I think it'd be best if you stayed after school until you get third grades back up to at least a B." The coach explained. "Please don't do this to me." I said to my coach. "I'm sorry Thomas but this has to be done." The coach explained to me. "Alright then fine, but how long is this gonna be?" I asked. "At least two weeks I figure, Mrs. Vickerson told me.
"So starting tomorrow we will meet after school in my room." Mrs. Vickerson explained to me. "Okay, fine." I said as I rolled my eyes. "Can I go now?" I asked as I looked at the clock. "Yeah, have a good night." The coach told me as I walked out of his office. "Oh yeah, like I'm going to have a good night after that meeting." I thought to myself.
As I was walking home from practice I realized that I had never been more angry than I was in that moment. I only had two more blocks before I got to my house. "Hey." I heard Lucy say from afar. I waved, I wished she hadn't seen me I just felt like being alone. "Sorry, Luc I can't really talk right now." I said as I walked up my driveway. "Catch you later than?" She said as she walked away.
"I was wondering where you've been." My Mother said to me. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Coach called me he informed me about you falling all of your classes." My Mother said to me. "I don't need a lecture from you now too, I'm going to my room." I said as I headed upstairs. "You wait just a damn minute." My mom said to me. "Or what?" I said.
"I'll call your father." She said to me. "And wouldn't you have to be on speaking terms to call him?" I asked. "How do you know about that?" She asked me. "You guys haven't been speaking, Dad told me." I explained. "Is this why you're acting out, because of the divorce?" My mom asked me. "No, I'm just mad because I now have to stay after school for tutoring for two weeks." I explained.
"Is your ADHD getting bad?" She asked me. "I don't know." I said to her. "I want you to do the tutoring." "I think it'd be better than you being stuck in summer school." My mother told me. "Okay, fine I promise I will do it." I told her. "Thank you." She smiled at me. "Okay, we'll I need to go to work, I ordered you a pizza for dinner." She told me.
I thanked her as I watched her head outside to her car. That's when I realized for the first time that my life really was falling apart, and I wanted to have some control over my life again so I realized that eating was the only thing I had control over. If I can't control anything else, I could control what I ate.
