It was exactly one week since I've been officially released from the eating disorder center. My parents have surprisingly given me the opportunity to take the first week off from school even though I was told by the doctors at the center that I could return.
Dad has been coming over for dinner almost every night. I still wish that him and mom would get back together, but I know that's not gonna happen. "Sleep well?" My Mom asked me as I walked downstairs to the kitchen. "Of course I did, it's been way better at night since I've been in my own room again." I said as I paced through the room nervously.
"Well, I made you breakfast." She said to me. "Thank you." I said as I grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator. "Honey, is everything alright.. you have t stopped pacing the room." She asked me. "Oh, uh just a bit of a stomachache." I lied as I continued to pace around. "Should I make you a doctors appointment?" My mother asks me in a voice of concern. "I don't think it's necessary." I said as I walked over to the kitchen table.
"Should I give you some of that stomach medicine that they've been giving you in the hospital?" She asked. "Yeah, I think that'd help thanks Mom." I replied. "I know it still isn't easy for you, Thomas." My mom said to me. "You know what still isn't easy for me?" I asked her as I started at the plate of food that was in front of me. "Eating." She replied as she set down the stomach medicine.
"Oh, uh... right, yeah, but I'm basically all better now." I said anxiously. "You're still in the process of your recovery right now." She reminded me. "Yeah, I know I just wish none of this had ever happened." I explained to her as I blinked back tears. "Honey, I know... but you can't change the fact that it did." She said to me. "Honey, you already look a lot healthier than you were before when you first got sick." My Mom told me.
"Well, I feel way better than I did." I said as I stated at the plate of food that was in front of me. "It's just about 8 AM, you should eat now." My Mom said to me as she headed over to the sink to wash dishes. "I suppose you're right." I said to her anxiously as I could feel my stomach growling from hunger. I placed a hand on my stomach as it continued to growl loudly. The food looked so good, I wanted to eat it, I was just having a hard time bringing myself to eat it.
It was an egg & cheese sandwich with a fruit cup that my Mom had made me. She remembered that it was one of my favorites, and that's probably why she made it. "Mom what kind of cheese is this and how many eggs did you put on this?" I asked as I could feel my chest tightening up. "It's white cheddar & I gave you one egg on it." She explained as she continued to wash dishes.
I was calculating the calories that I was going to be consuming and I felt like I was gonna be sick. But I knew if I didn't start eating something soon then my Mom was going to get suspicious. So I started eating the fruit cup first, it tasted really good. The breakfast sandwich still remained on my plate. I began to pick it up from the plate and started to eat it slowly.
It was really good, way better than the hospital food that I've been eating. So I continued to slowly eat it until it was completely gone. But for some reason I still wanted more, and I wasn't sure why. "I'm all finished Mom." I told her as I handed her my empty plate. "I'm so proud of you for eating that." she said to me happily. "Well, can I go lay down some I asked her. "But honey you just woke up." She said to me.
"Oh, I know i'm just really tired for some reason." I replied to her. "Well, sure you can." She agreed. "Just take that medicine before you do please." She said to me. "I almost forgot about it." I said to my Mom as I swallowed it down with the rest of my water. "I went into the fridge to grab another bottle of water. "I hope you're not thinking of purging." She said to me. "Oh, no I promise I'm not." I said to her.
