The Concert

Rody took in a deep breath as he peaked out. The building wasn't big by any means. Especially since they weren't really a big time band. Still Rody was surprised how packed it was. The chatter of hundreds of voices filled it. Making it sound like they were in the backstage of a full time famous band at an auditorium rather than a small concert in a small playhall. He quickly saw Richard, and Amiel alongside some other people. His eyes continued to scan looking over for a familiar head of black hair. Though it was hard to see. "Are you nervous?" Rody turned back to see Mathew there. "Yeah, a little, I think this is the most people we've had." Rody said as he looked back out. Still no sign of the person he wanted to see.

"Hey Vince." Rody said as he looked up at Vincent. They were longing on Vincent's couch. Rody's head leaning on Vincent's shoulder. Vincent was gently scratching through his hair. Calming orchestral music was playing on the record player next to them. "Yes?" Vincent asked as he looked down at him. "Do you want to go to my concert? I know you've seen us perform for the past few nights, but I really want you to show up." Rody said as Vincent smiled down at him. "Of course." Vincent said. "Really?" Rody asked as turned to properly face him. "Yes." Vincent said as he moved his hand to Rody's shoulder. "You're genuinely serious." Rody said as he sat up straight. "Mon cheri, if I didn't want to go, I would tell you now." Vincent said as he cupped Rody's cheek. Rody smiled as he relaxed into Vincent's touch.

Rody sighed as he walked back to the backstage. Andy was in a corner shaking his hands and moving his legs back and forth. "You got this Andy! You got this!" Dolly said as Andy took a deep breath. "I got this!" Andy said as he continued to switch back and forth making it look like he was doing some weird dance. Rody could see James sneaking behind him with a harmonica pulled close to his mouth. As soon as he was right behind Andy he blew on the harmonica. A loud piercing note came through. Andy practically jumped out of his skin. Shaking for a few minutes before his head snapped in James direction. James gave a cheeky smile as he began to speed walk away. "JAMES!" Andy shouted as he began to follow him. "Andy, wait!" Dolly said in between laughs. "One of y'all stop him." Dolly said as James darted behind Leo. "Why are you using me as a shield? I'm not involved in this!" Leo exclaimed as Rody and Mathew also let out a couple of chuckles before Rody began to walk over. "Alright relax." Rody said as he picked Andy up by his under arm pits. Lifting him a solid foot off the ground. "Gah! Rody put me down!" Andy shouted as he began to kick. "Take a deep breath now." Rody said before Andy eventually began to calm down. "Alright I'm calm." Leo moved to the side as Rody put Andy down. Andy placed a hand on James' shoulder. "James." He remained silent for a few seconds. "Thanks for that." Andy said as he smiled at James. James smiled back before Andy used his other hand to slap his shoulder. "Ow!" James exclaimed as he rubbed his shoulder. "You'll be fine, I've slapped someone harder than that." Andy said as he walked over to where he had his trumpet case against the wall. "Alright y'all!" The group turned to the stage manager. "Y'all are on in about a minute." The rest nodded as Rody and James walked over to their cases and grabbed their instruments from the cases as Andy began to attach some pieces he had to pull off his trumpet. "Alight guys, we're going to do well today." Dolly said as she looked at the group. "We've had some slip ups, but we did great at practice last night, we can do it again tonight. Rody you got the song memorized?" Dolly asked as Rody nodded. "Yep." He said. He had been playing the tune all day. Richard had given him the day off. That hadn't been the case for Vincent. Which gave Rody all the time he needed to practice the lyrics. "Ladies and gentlemen. We present to you the performance for tonight Dolly and the gang!" "And y'all are on." The stage manager said as Andy stood up with his trumpet. Dolly was assisted by Leo and Mathew. As they walked out the crowd cheered. Rody gave a wave once again looking around to see if he could see him. Yet he also had to focus on getting to his spot. "Hello everybody!" Dolly shouted into the microphone as the crowd cheered once again. Rody could make out Richard screaming over everyone else. "How are we doing this evening?" The crowd once again screamed. "Now are we ready!" The crowd screamed again. Dolly looked back at the band, all of them nodding. "One, two, three!" Leo began with the drums.

Song after song the audience enjoyed it. Even when they got to Rody's sad sounding songs. Though the mood became a bit more somber. With a few people even leaning forward and giving pitiful looks. Rody's eyes once scanned the crowd. Still no sign his hope was draining by the moment. But Vincent or no Vincent he was going to do it. Before he knew it was his time to perform. "Now for our next song, I'm not going to be singing it." A few whispers of confusion sounded through the room. "This bandmate had only finished the song as of recently and wanted to play it for himself. So everybody give it up for our very own guitarist Rody Lamoree!" The crowd went wild as a crew member brought out a stool while Dolly moved back over towards Andy. Rody nervously walked up. Every step matched the thudding sound in his heart. He had to lean down a bit due to him being much taller than Dolly. "Hello?" More cheers from the crowd. Rody sat down on the stool and smiled. "Y'all can hear me still?" Rody asked as the microphone projected his voice. "Yeah." Several audience members said as Rody gave a small chuckle. He positioned his fingers over the strings. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes. Looking up and landing on a face he had been waiting for the entire evening. A small smile appeared on his face as he began to strum the first few notes.
