You don't even feel your nails digging into your palms as your hands tighten into fists.
"Struggling." The word comes out a statement rather than a question, but Heishe understands.
I'm not surprised, he comments, his wings folding as he dips into the clouds beneath you. Even I can barely imagine what it must be like to be deprived of your powers for so long a time and then have them be returned in what's nothing more than a snip of a finger for demons.
He pauses briefly while the unrest in your stomach makes you swallow heavily. You know demons can't throw up, but you feel weirdly sick, and it's not because of Heishe's flying manoeuvres.
I can't say I wouldn't lose myself to it, my Queen. His voice is quiet and grave. Our powers are impressive weapons... but inherently, they are dark. Lose the grip on them for too long and you might just lose yourself.
"Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?!" The anger in your voice is so palpable the air reacts to it instantly, charging with electricity that makes your skin tingle. Daimon hisses in response, the sound soon dying down to a low growl in his chest.
I thought the Seven would be able to handle it. It... didn't cross my mind.
Heishe's hesitation and the fact that even he did not expect this to happen just makes the improbability of this reality sink even deeper into your bones, and its heaviness clashes with your agitation so intensely that you suck in a harsh breath doing little to calm your nerves.
"I don't care what you have to do", you grit, now feeling like you're the one losing yourself to the emotions surging within you. "Get me there right now. If they don't make it..."
Your words trail off, and another realisation just adds to the burden currently chaining down your body - the realisation that if the Sins go rogue, you and your familiars will have no one by your side to wage this war.
If the Sins lose themselves, you're doomed.
Your fingers clasp around the sharp edges of Heishe's scales so tightly the pressure feels like they're being cut off, but you don't care.
How are you going to stop it?
Desperation extends its fingers for you, clasps them around your throat and slowly invades your mind as you sit frozen in place, staring blankly to the front.
Can you even stop it?
From somewhere far away, you can hear someone call your name.
Y/N?
Y/N.
Y/N!
The voice grows more panicked every time it calls your name, and you are finally being ripped out of your daze.
When you return to your senses, your body feels weirdly rigid, and when you look down, the first thing you see is the relentless frost slowly spreading over Heishe's scales and your own body from your hands, turning the two of you white as the air around you grows icier by the second.
The second thing you see is the black smoke around you and your skin peeling from your hands in dark flakes, revealing the bones underneath still stiffly bent around his scale.
With a terrified yelp, you rip them off his body, but when you look at them again, your skin is back to normal and the black fog is gone. Slowly, the ice on your and Heishe's body begins to recede.
"What was that?", you huff as Daimon snarls from behind. You tell me!, he snaps at you, both panic and relief evident in his tone. Never do that again!
