Our match, you repeat Heishe's words in your head. For a second, your mind refuses to acknowledge what he means by this. When it finally does, you feel it run through your body like an electric shock.
Gritting your teeth and balling your fists, you look down on the ground. There has to be another way, you insist as you loosen your hands again and step away from the door. We have to convince him somehow.
Heishe's voice is soft when he replies. He is clearly trying to avoid upsetting you, and yet you can't help the rush of emotion that overwhelms you when he says: I do not think we can this time, my Queen.
Before you can even begin to reply, Daimon speaks up. I agree, he says, glancing at the door of the wooden house. The sounds from within indicate the young man is trying his best to barricade himself in, but all three of you know that's in vain if you truly decide to go after him.
It seems his family has been somewhat obsessive over this pact. The hate towards demons is strongly engraved in his mind, which – while understandable – makes it impossible for us to play the nice card this time.
And he seems determined, Heishe adds sullenly. It's clear the two of them dislike the thought as much as you do, but they seem much less impacted by their feelings. Rather, their minds radiate determination, and it disgusts you.
He's a living being! We can't just go in there and slit his throat or something!, you oppose angrily, your muscles tensing even though you would never attack your familiars.
So?
Daimon's voice is like a bucket of icy cold water. His blind eyes stare right back at you as your head whips in his direction.
What about the Sins?
And as if that wasn't a punch in the gut enough, he quickly adds:
What about Yoongi?
You freeze on the spot when he mentions the name, demonic rage flooding your mind at the fact that he dared to turn your feelings against you like this.
How dare you, you whisper in your mind, but Daimon merely flicks his tail and looks away.
It is my duty, he pushes back. You are a demon now, Y/N. There's no place for such human feelings within you anymore. It's better for you if you realize that quickly.
Unfortunately, your sharp claws digging into your palms at his words don't hurt you, otherwise they might have ripped you out of your anger.
My feelings make me strong, you hiss, the red in your eyes flaring as you quietly force your familiar to look back at you. There's no emotion in his white eyes, and you are too unconcentrated to care for whatever feelings or thoughts race through his mind. I refuse to let anyone take that from me!
Then everyone around you will suffer for it, Daimon replies just as calmly as before. His composure enrages you even more. So, would you be willing to sacrifice the Seven for the life of this man?
Heishe shifts where he stands, but before he can interject, the fury drains from your body as if someone pulled a plug, and you realize that at least with his last question, Daimon is right.
You wouldn't.
You snarl, unable to contain the disgust and feeling of wrongness that fills you at the thought of killing this young man, but you know you don't have a choice.
