I was born into a world unknown,
To a mother who chose to let me go.
My first breaths taken in a place so new,
Without the love that only a mother knew.
I was placed in the arms of strangers,
Who promised to love me like their own.
But the ache inside me never vanished,
For the mother I'd never known.
Adoption trauma is a silent pain,
A wound that never seems to heal.
It whispers doubts into your mind,
And makes your heart refuse to feel.
I grew up in a loving home,
With parents who did their best.
But the void inside me never left,
And I couldn't put it to rest.
The search for my birth mother,
Became an obsession in my life.
But the answers I found only left me,
With more questions and more strife.
Adoption trauma is a lifelong battle,
A fight to reconcile who you are.
To find a way to heal the hurt,
And to shine like a bright shining star.
I may never fully understand,
The reasons why I was given away.
But I know that I am loved,
And that's what gets me through each day.
I am more than just an adoption story,
I am a survivor, strong and brave.
And I will continue to.
