Within my heart there lies a green,
An envy that's forever keen,
I look upon another's lot,
And find myself consumed with thought.
Why do they have what I do not?
Why do they shine when I am not?
What do they have that I can't see,
That makes them better off than me?
I cannot bear to see them soar,
And wish that they would be no more,
For in my envy, I am blind,
To all the good that I can find.
But envy is a poison strong,
That eats away my soul for long,
And soon I'll find that I am lost,
At such a dear and bitter cost.
So let me shed this envious heart,
And from this deadly sin depart,
For in contentment I'll find peace,
And all my envy will finally cease.
