Akimitsu was so nice to me. I felt bad that I showed up to his place unannounced, but he was very understanding.

When I first walked in, there was a girl in his place. She stared at me with an annoyed look on her face. I figured she was his mate until he kicked her out.

Once we sat down, I told him my dilemma. For some reason, Akimitsu smelled really good to me. His eyes, face, and smile made me blush.

Every time he spoke, I felt tingles down my spine. I honestly began to forget why I was even there to see him.

"Can I ask you a question?" He asked.

"Yes."

"When Darnell rejected you...what did you feel?"

"I felt stupid for even agreeing to be his girl in the first place but mostly embarrassed because everyone saw it happen."

"Wait, so he just asked you out?"

"Yeah a few times before I agreed. I knew his reputation, so I didn't want any parts. But then he told me I was his mate and that he never had a connection with any other girl like he had with me."

Akimitsu looked confused.

"So did he actually mark you?"

"As in bite me? Absolutely not. I wouldn't allow it."

"How did he claim you?"

"He said the words, then we kissed. He wanted to go further, but I stopped him."

Akimitsu smiled while shaking his head. He was so attractive, and I felt like I've known him for years. He made me feel nervous but safe.

"So, physically, did you feel anything when he rejected you?"

I looked confused. "Like pain?"

"Yes."

"No. Actually, once I got home, I felt relieved that it was over."

Akimitsu has this look on his face like I confirmed something he already knew. It was hard to explain the humming in my abdomen that intensified every time he stared into my eyes.

"Well, it seems that Darnell wasn't your fated mate."

"You think so?"

"I know so. He used that as a reason to date you."

"Why would he do that?"

"Would you have given him a chance otherwise?"

I don't know what came over me, but I laughed. The realization that Darnell used me being his mate as a pick-up line was pretty sad.

And the worst part is....I fell for it.

"Heck no I wouldn't have."

He smiled. "Exactly."

Our conversation naturally went to other things not pertaining to Darnell or Breana. I leaned back on the couch, enjoying our interaction.

"Would you like something to drink?"

"If it's no trouble."

Akimitsu stood up. "I have water, soda, and beer."

"I'll take water, please."

He went into his kitchen while my eyes scanned his living room. For him to be a guy, his house was really clean and organized.

"Here you go."

"Thank you."

He sat down and stared at me. I was too nervous to do the same to him.

"Are you in college?"
