The night of the dinner was truly everything. Being engaged to Noah was so unexpected, I still can’t believe it's real.
I will admit that I saw a few eyes of disapproval, but I wasn’t going to let those few people ruin one of the happiest days of my life.
Two weeks have passed, and now that I have been acknowledged as Luna of the Phoenix Wolf Pack, I’ll have some new responsibilities. Noah told me there wasn’t a rush, especially since I’m still in college.
But I’m so inspired at how he and Akim attend college while still running the pack so thoroughly. I’ve decided to get involved with the little ones.
I've always loved kids and want to help upgrade the daycare center and elementary school. One day my children will be attending these facilities, so I might as well get started on making it a wonderful place for them to be.
My cheeks blushed at the idea of having Noah’s pups. I was in one of the daycare rooms organizing the supplies with one of the teachers.
“I really appreciate you helping, Luna.”
“No, please call me Nova, and it’s my pleasure.”
Kim smiled. “Okay, and thank you.”
“Luna! We have a problem at the municipal building. Alpha Knox and Akimitsu isn't here.”
I hurried to follow the worried pack member. Once we got a few feet from the location, I could see a group of people standing in the distance.
They were arguing back and forth with the officials. It looked like it was getting heated.
“Oh good, our Luna is here. Maybe she can make you all understand,” one of the clerks said with relief.
I held my head up high, preparing myself for things to go left. My responsibility was to my pack, and I was going to make sure I represented their Alpha properly.
“How can I help you?”
“Bring the head of the person responsible for my child’s death!”
The voice I heard in the distance sounded familiar. When she came forward, I recognized it was Chanel’s mother.
Noah already had a feeling things would get hostile since the officials closed the warehouse case so quickly. The deaths were ruled as self-defense on the part of the Phoenix Wolf Pack.
“Nova, you’re the luna?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Her eyes began to water.
“Well, I know you and Chanel had a falling out, but she was your best friend. She loved you, Nova. You can’t let her death go unjust.”
I used to eat over this woman’s house, share laughs, and confide in her with female questions. The look in her eyes broke my heart.
I wasn’t cool with Chanel anymore, but Ms. Waters didn’t deserve this pain. And I’m sure she didn’t know half of the foul things her daughter did.
“I’m sorry for your loss, Ms. Diane, but…”
“There is no buts…my daughter was murdered in cold blood. I have no way to even bury her remains!”
She pulled out a picture of the bloody scene at the warehouse. There was nothing but chunks of flesh splattered where Chanel’s frozen body shattered to the ground.
“There’s nothing left! My grandbaby has no mother!”
Another voice shouted. “Or father! Who would do such a thing taking parents away from their child?!”
The crowd began to get riled up again.
“We want whoever's responsible prosecuted!”
“If your leaders don’t do anything, then we’ll find the bastards and put them to death ourselves!”
“Everyone, please calm down!” I shouted over the crowd to no avail.
“SHUT UP!”
My added echo to my voice got their attention, causing them all to cover their ears in pain.
“Do I have your attention?”
They all nervously gave me a nod and kept their focus on me.
“Outside officials have already taken this case and thoroughly went through evidence, including video surveillance from the warehouse and nightclub Salacious.”
More head nods were given, then I continued.
“The case was closed due to the evidence proving that their deaths were a fault of their own.”
“WHAT?!”
“That is bullshit!!”
Ms. Waters and a few others shouted. I sent a piercing sound through the crowd, and they all cowed from the painful noise.
“Can I finish?”
There was silence once again.
“Tyree and Chanel were involved with Ricco Stewart, who was the head of a gang heavy in organized crime. Himself and Tyree took Alpha Knox by gunpoint from the nightclub while Chanel took me against my will also.”
Ms. Water’s eyes widened.
“Who killed Chanel and Tyree?”
“Does it matter?” I asked.
“Yes, it would give us some closure.”
The official stood next to me, and I gave him a nod to proceed.
“Alpha Knox and Lily Rogers.”
Gasp and hurtful cries were heard through the crowd.
“Look, I know you all would like to think that their deaths were unexcused, but if we didn’t fight back, our parents would be the ones at your doors instead.”
“Bring us Lily and Alpha Knox!”
“We have a right to face the accused!”
“THEY NEED TO PAY!”
It seems the more we compromise, the worse the situation gets. I mind linked my mate.
Noah, we have a problem here at the pack location.
A few seconds went by.
I’m on my way.
His voice gave me some relief, but Ms. Diane wasn’t letting up.
“There was another way to handle the confrontation. Why did they have to kill Chanel?”
Kim grew annoyed and spoke up.
“Why was Chanel involved with a criminal? She would still be alive if she didn’t keep such terrible company.”
Diane was taken off guard, but the truth is the truth.
“How dare you speak ill of my baby girl? She is dead! I am mourning my child!”
“Then you should go be with your family and do that. You’re not in the right headspace, Ms. Diane.”
“I’m not going any fucking where.”
She pulled a gun from her purse and my heart raced. Everyone began to shout in surprise.
“No, Diane!”
“Put the gun down!”
A few shouts from the crowd against her actions were heard. But many seemed to agree with her method.
“Get the Alpha here, right now!”
“We want Lily too!”
Diane pointed the gun towards me.
“Someone’s gonna pay from killing my daughter, and if it has to be you, Luna…then so be it.”
My eyes watered, but I knew I had to defend myself. It was either me or her. Ms. Diane cocked her gun.
“Bitch, I wish you would!”
I turned toward the powerful voice.
“M-Mommy?”
