If the sheriff thought he was taking Nova with him, he was sadly mistaken. This Izdra chick was not on any level of authority, and I'm wondering why she's even here.
Besides her witch abilities, she has no jurisdiction here or title. Being an informant is one thing, but telling the sheriff who to arrest and question is another.
"Nova's not going with you."
"Excuse me, Alpha...but this is official police business."
"That you have no authority in."
Nova squeezed my hand as my parents agreed with my statement. My father wasn’t a troublemaker, but I knew he would make shit move for his family.
"Sheriff, I suggest you get a warrant or something."
"I actually can question her without a warrant if I have reasonable suspicion that she is connected to a crime."
My mother stood next to us. "Oh, well, Nova will remain silent until she speaks with an attorney."
The anger in Izdra's eyes couldn't be hidden. My father stood in front of us, blocking the sheriff and witch's view.
"I'm going to ask you both nicely to leave my home...now."
The sheriff tipped his hat, and they both left without any words. Nova hugged me, and I could feel her body trembling. My father shut the door behind them.
"I have to find my mother."
"I'm right here."
We all jumped at the unexpected voice as Ms. Laticha walked through the wall.
"Mommy!"
Nova ran to her and sank into her mother's arms. My parents had relief on their faces, and so did I.
"We thought you left."
"I did but kept my eyes on the scene. I knew Izdra could sense my presence, but being that Nova has a strong energy, it was confusing her."
"So what are you going to do?" Nova asked.
"I'm not running anymore. I belong here just as much as Curtis and his whore. I thought we were cool, I can't believe she ratted me out."
"Well, you're going to have to lay low for a while."
"Only until midnight Sunday. Then I'm free to go as I please."
"Then stay here with us. We have plenty of room."
Ms. Laticha smiled. "Yeah, I see, Mrs. Soft Life. I'm trying to get like you."
"That means you will have to date, Mom."
"Ugh, I forgot about that. Never mind, this will do."
We all laughed, and my mom showed Ms. Laticha to her room. After a few minutes, Nova's phone buzzed, and she looked concerned.
"What's wrong?"
My phone began going off, and I answered.
"What's..."
Before I could finish, Akim's voice cried through my phone.
"Akim, calm down.. What's wrong?"
"I fucked up! I fucked up! Lily left me, she's gone."
"Gone where?"
"I don't know! She rejected me and blocked me from her phone."
My heart dropped. "Oh shit...what did you do?!"
"Something really messed up." Nova interrupted.
"What the hell is going on?"
Nova got up and grabbed her keys and purse.
