Andy stepped off of the Dodger's team bus, the echo of his teammates' laughter still ringing in his ears. The game had been a tight one, but the Dodgers had managed to edge out the Diamondbacks with a late-inning rally. His mind, however, wasn’t on the game. It was on you. You have been his rock through the highs and lows of his career, but lately, he could see the stress from your family etched into your face. He knew you had the habit of being the peacekeeper in your family, no matter how much it drained you. You tried to mask it with a smile, but Andy knew you like the back of his hand.
As he entered your shared hotel room in Arizona, he found you lying on the bed, scrolling aimlessly through Instagram on your phone. The dark circles under your eyes and the tension in your shoulders were absolutely unmistakable. Andy knew you were very stubborn and wouldn't admit to feeling stressed, but he knew you like the back of his hand.
"Hey, babe," he said softly, sitting on the edge of the bed and gently brushing a strand of hair from your face. "How are you feeling?"
You shyly looked up at him, forcing a smile. "I'm fine, Andy. Just a little tired, that's all."
Andy nodded, not wanting to push you too hard. He leaned down and kissed your forehead, a plan already forming in his mind. "I’m going to take a quick shower, okay?" he said, standing up and heading toward the bathroom.
He turned on the water, making sure it was just the right temperature for you, and then grabbed the shower chair that was most left for older people but Andy knew it would be perfect for what he had in mind tonight.
Once the water was warm, he returned to the bedroom where you were still on the bed, eyes closed, looking more exhausted than ever. Without a word, he scooped you up into his arms, making you yelp out in surprise.
"Andy, what are you doing?" You asked.
He set you gently down on the counter, his hands moving to the hem of your shirt. "I'm going to help you relax," he explained. "Just let me take care of you tonight."
"Andy- ", you started shaking your head, "you had a long day, I should be the one taking care of you tonight"
"Mi amor trust me," he said, his eyes never leaving yours "You need this way more than I do."
Your eyes softened, and you slowly nodded, allowing him to undress you. Once he was done, he guided you to the shower chair and helped you sit down. The warm water cascading over you, causing you to let out a soft sigh of relief.
Andy quickly undressed himself and stepped into the shower with you. He grabbed the shampoo and worked it into a lather in his hands. "Lean forward a bit," he instructed softly.
You quickly obeyed, and Andy began to massage the shampoo into your scalp, his fingers working in slow, deliberate circles. He could feel the tension melting away under his touch, your shoulders relaxing as you closed your eyes.
"This feels amazing," you murmured.
Andy smiled, continuing his gentle massage. "I know how much you love this," he said. "And you deserve it mir amor. You’ve been carrying so much stress lately, and I want to help you let it go."
For a few minutes, you two stayed like that, the steam enveloping you, the sound of the water a soothing background hum. Andy rinsed the shampoo from your hair, his fingers tender as they worked through the strands.
Next, he took some body wash and lathered it in his hands. "Stand up for me," he said softly.
You stood up, and Andy began to wash your body, his hands moving with a mixture of care and intimacy. He could see the worry lines on your face smoothing out, your eyes half-closed in relaxation.
"You’re amazing, you know that?" You said quietly.
Andy chuckled. "I’m just doing what any good boyfriend would do."
When you two were both clean, Andy helped you out of the shower, wrapping you in a soft, fluffy towel. He dried you off gently before doing the same for himself. Then he began to dress you in one of his tee shirts and a pair of his sweatpants before he led you back to the bed, tucking you in under the covers.
As he climbed in beside you, you cuddled close, your head resting on his chest. "Thank you so much babe," she whispered. "I didn’t realize how much I needed that."
Andy kissed the top of your head, wrapping his arms around you. "You don't have to thank me," he said. "I’m just glad I could help. Now get some sleep, okay? We’ve got another game tomorrow."
You nodded, your breathing already evening out as youdrifted towards sleep. Andy lay awake for a while longer, listening to the steady rhythm of your breath and feeling grateful for the chance to take care of you
