The streets of Los Angeles were packed with Dodger blue as far as the eye could see. Fans had come out in waves, cheering and celebrating their hometown heroes for bringing home the World Series title back home. Jack could hardly believe he was here, in the middle of it all, riding through a sea of excited fans, and taking in every moment of the parade.
Jack stood on one of the parade floats alongside his teammates, shirt that read “Jobs finished.” He already had a celebratory drink in his hand, raising it in the air as the float passed by screaming fans, his face lit up with pure joy. Beside him was you, your own eyes wide with excitement as you waved at the crowd. The energy was electric, and Jack couldn’t help but feel like he was floating. This moment, this celebration—it was everything he’d ever dreamed of ever since he was a kid.
The float moved down the route, with confetti flying and music blasting from every corner. Jack leaned toward you, slinging an arm around your shoulder. “Can you believe this?” he yelled over the noise, his smile stretching from ear to ear. He looked like a kid in a candy store, completely in awe.
You laughed, looking up at him with eyes full of pride. “I can’t believe it! I’m so proud of you, Jack. Look at all these people here for you, for the team! You did this!”
He chuckled, a bit of a dazed look on his face. “I still feel like I’m dreaming,” he said, lifting his cup to take another drink. The more he drank, the looser he felt, the tension from the past games fading further with each sip. He was surrounded by his teammates, by the love of his life, and by fans who adored the team—it was a perfect day.
As the parade continued, Jack’s enthusiasm grew. He cheered along with the crowd, high-fived his teammates, and took every chance to celebrate with you by his side. His excitement was infectious, and you couldn’t stop laughing and smiling as he leaned into you, eyes shining with joy.
At one point, Jack spotted Freddie on the next float over, raising his own drink in a mock toast. “Hey, Freddie!” he called, slurring just a bit. “Walk-off hero!” He gestured at you with a broad grin.
Freddie laughed and raised his drink in a salute. “Cheers to that!"
You just laughed, holding Jack steady as he leaned a little too far over the edge of the float in his excitement. “Jack, careful!” you warned, but you were still smiling. It was such a rare sight to see him so carefree and happy. All the stress and pressure that had been on his shoulders during the playoffs had melted away, leaving only pure joy.
When their float stopped for a moment to let fans gather around for pictures, Jack pulled you close, wrapping both arms around you. “Thank you,” he said, his voice suddenly softer, more sincere. He leaned his forehead against yours gazing into your eyes with a tenderness that made your heart flutter. “For being here with me. For everything. I wouldn’t be here without you.”
You smiled, your own eyes misty. “Jack, you worked so hard for this. You deserve all of it. I’m just glad I got to be by your side.”
He pressed a kiss to your forehead, then pulled back with a goofy grin. “We’re champions, Y/N! I still can’t believe it!” He looked out over the crowd, raising his drink one more time. “To the Dodgers!” he yelled, and the crowd roared in response.
As the parade continued, Jack grew more animated, the drinks fueling his excitement. He started leading chants with the crowd, and every time he spotted a kid wearing his jersey, he made a point to wave and call out to them. You found yourself laughing and smiling almost constantly, caught up in the sheer joy radiating from him. He was absolutely in his element, surrounded by the people who supported him, and you felt a swell of pride every time you saw how the fans reacted to him.
When the parade finally came to an end and the players were ushered back to Dodger Stadium for the event being held there, Jack was feeling the effects of his enthusiastic drinking. He stumbled a bit as they got off the float, leaning on you for support, but his grin never faded.
“Y/N, you’re the best,” he slurred, looping his arm around your shoulders as they walked into the stadium. “I mean it. I couldn’t do any of this without you. You’re my good luck charm.”
You rolled your eyes playfully, but your heart swelled at his words. “I think the rest of the team might have something to do with it too, Jack,” you teased, squeezing his side.
“Maybe,” he said with a smirk, “but you’re my MVP.” He looked down at you with such genuine affection that you felt yourself blushing.
Eventually the event at Dodger Stadium came to an end and the two of you headed to the Betts' house for an after party. The two of you mingled with the other players and their families, sharing stories and reminiscing about the season’s highs and lows. Jack seemed to gain a second wind, pulling you onto the dance floor as a DJ started playing music. You laughed, allowing yourself to be spun around by him, his slightly tipsy dancing bringing a smile to your face. He wasn’t the best dancer, but his enthusiasm made up for it.
After a while, he took a break, sitting down heavily in a chair with you beside him. He looked at you, his eyes still shining with a mixture of pride and happiness. “You know,” he said, reaching for your hand, “I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I mean it. You kept me grounded when I felt like I was going to lose it.”
You smiled, squeezing his hand. “Jack, you were incredible all season. This was your dream, and you made it happen.”
He shook his head, his gaze softening. “It wouldn’t mean half as much if you weren’t here with me.” He pulled you into a tight hug, his hand running over you back as he whispered, “Thank you for everything, Y/N. You’re my everything.”
The party continued late into the night, but Jack hardly noticed the time slipping away. He was completely caught up in the moment, savoring every second with you by his side. Eventually, as the night began to wind down, you helped him up, guiding him out of the celebration and toward their car.
“Alright, champ,” you teased, as he leaned on you a bit, his steps a bit unsteady. “I think it’s time to get you home.”
He laughed, nodding. “You’re probably right.” He gave you a goofy smile, his sunglasses lopsided on his face, his arm draped around your shoulder. “But this was the best day of my life.”
You smiled, helping him into the passenger seat of the car before climbing in beside him. “Mine too,” you said softly, looking over at him with all the love in your heart.
As you drove home, Jack’s head rested against the window, his hand still holding yours. His eyes began to droop, and he whispered one last, heartfelt, “Thank you” before drifting off to sleep, a small smile on his face.
You smiled to yourself, feeling a deep sense of contentment. Watching him sleep, you knew that no matter what challenges came their way, you'd face them together.
